What's Your Pleasure?

This is a fantastic record filled with amazing disco songs that have tons of depth and emotion to them. It’s a luxurious piece of music that doesn’t recreate the genre, but it takes all its strengths and puts them together to make a record that feels fresh and exciting. This is some truly marvelous music and I thank Jessie for putting this out for the world to hear. It’s made mine and many other’s year a lot better because of it. There’s a reason why this album is ranked so high on many people’s lists. You need to experience it for yourself if you haven’t yet.

Favorite Tracks: “Remember Where You Are”, “In Your Eyes”, “Spotlight”, “Adore You”, “The Kill”, “What’s Your Pleasure?”, “Save A Kiss”, “Read My Lips”, “Ooh La La”, “Step Into My Life”

Score: 9.3/10
9Phoebe Bridgers
Punisher

There’s so many other things I could say about this record, but I think it’s best if you hear it for yourself if you haven’t yet, as the music speaks for itself. Phoebe Bridgers has honed her craft to create something truly special. The soundscapes on “Punisher” are detailed and thought out, yet nothing feels forced or overdone. The atmosphere combined with Phoebe's unmistakably, serene and bittersweet vocals are what end up making this album what it is. Definitely don’t sleep on this record as its emotional potency is unlike anything I’ve heard all year. It’s a perfect album for 2020, and it’s one I’ll continue to listen to for years to come. This slowburning, apocalyptic, and touching album will definitely stand the test of time in my music library!

Favorite Tracks: “I Know the End”, “Savior Complex”, “Graceland Too”, “Chinese Satellite”, “Punisher”, “Kyoto”, “Moon Song”, “ICU”, “Garden Song”

Score: 9.3/10
8Imperial Triumphant
Alphaville

I’ve seen some critics say that this is the future of metal, and I honestly agree. This new sound of theirs is so innovative, creative and exciting that I cant wait to see where they go next. This is some truly, next level music right here, and I’m glad I got into it when I did. It definitely won’t be for everyone, but I sure as hell was impressed by it, because it doesn’t sound like anything else out there right now. That’s some really high praise, but it totally deserves it in my opinion. Believe it. The atomic age is upon us!

Side Note: Also that artwork is incredible! Definitely my favorite one of the year. Absolutely marvelous.

Favorite Tracks: “Atomic Age”, “The Greater Good”, “Alphaville”, “Transmission to Mercury”, “City Swine”, “Excelsior”, “Rotted Futures”, “Experiment”

Score: 9.3/10
7Dua Lipa
Future Nostalgia

“Future Nostalgia” sees Dua Lipa break out into the superstar she was destined to become. She’s absolutely massive now and I’m glad she’s getting the praise she deserves. I hope this record wins the Grammy, but even if it doesn’t I’ll still be rooting for her. “Future Nostalgia” is a true powerhouse for pop culture as a whole as it is dominating the music landscape. This a pop masterpiece that rivals the best the genre has to offer. That may be a bold statement to make, but I truly think it’ll stand the test of time. At least for me it will. If you haven’t heard this album then what are you waiting for?? One of the most memorable and replayable albums I’ve ever heard.

Favorite Tracks: “Levitating”, “Love Again”, “Physical”, “Cool”, “Break My Heart”, “Don’t Start Now”, “Pretty Please”, “Future Nostalgia”, “Hallucinate”, “Good in Bed”

Score: 9.4/10
6Deftones
Ohms

I’m sure Deftones fans would have been overjoyed at just a really decent record from the band, such as “Gore”, but instead they’ve reset their own bar and given us an album that feels as essential as their best works. The reigning kings in 2000’s Alternative Metal once again proved that they deserve all the praise and success they’ve achieved over their long years of being a band. “Ohms” is an extremely, cathartic record that dives into dark themes while also being beautiful. Long live the legendary Deftones!

Favorite Tracks: “Error”, “The Link is Dead”, “Radiant City”, “Genesis”, “Urantia”, “Ceremony”, “Pompeji”, “The Spell of Mathematics”

Score: 9.4/10

I Let It In And It Took Everything

I haven’t heard a record quite like this one, and that just goes to show how talented these guys are. As an entire body of work, it feels like a journey as it connects with me on so many different levels. I can see this becoming an all time favorite of mine in the near future. It’s filled to the brim with incredible material that both gives me an adrenaline rush and moments of catharsis. These guys have a bright future ahead of them as “I Let It In and It Took Everything” was a big success in my book! Go give this a spin now.

Favorite Tracks: “I Let It In and It Took Everything”, “A Sad Cartoon”, “Screaming”, “Is It Really You?”, “Heavy Is the Head That Falls With the Weight of a Thousand Thoughts”, “Two-Way Mirror”, “Accelerated Evolution”, “New Faces in the Dark”, “Broken Vision Rhythm”, “Gored”

Score: 9.4/10
4John Petrucci
Terminal Velocity

Every guitar solo, every drum fill, every riff is exactly what I wanted it to be and then some. I can definitely see it getting predictable after a while for some people, but I personally was enthralled by most of it as I’m a huge fan of this brand of Progressive Metal. Not to mention we have three of the greatest musicians to ever live playing together so that definitely factors into why I love this record so much. Anyways enough of my rambling. If you’re any type of metal, prog or guitar fan I beg you to give this a listen. Your life will get better because of it. I promise you!

Favorite Tracks: “Temple of Circadia”, “The Way Things Fall”, “Gemini”, “Out of the Blue”, “ The Oddfather”, “Happy Song”, “Glassy-Eyed Zombies”, “Terminal Velocity”

Score: 9.4/10
3The Strokes
The New Abnormal

Irresistible vocal melodies, catchy choruses, emotional lyrical content, beautiful guitar playing, nostalgic sounding synths and an amazing rhythm section is what you get with “The New Abnormal.” This is an album that brings me so much joy and happiness in a year that desperately needed those emotions. I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t already been said. I just want to thank Julien and company for creating such a work of art that we can all cherish for the rest of our lives. This is a timeless record that I’ll be playing for years to come. The Strokes have made a truly special record here in 2020, and I’m just glad I was around to experience it myself.

Favorite Tracks: “Ode to the Mets”, “Why Are Sundays so Depressing”, “Not the Same Anymore”, “Selfless”, “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus”, “Bad Decisions”, “The Adults Are Talking”, “At the Door”

Score: 9.5/10
2Neal Morse
Sola Gratia

I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea since it’s very religious and has a lot of Christian undertones, but I feel it could still impact non-Christians in some way, because of how the story is told. Just like Neal’s albums prior, there’s a lot of universal truths to be found in the lyrics. It’s no wonder I’ve had Neal’s albums ranked so high through the years. He just creates incredible music that has connected with me in more ways than I can count. “Sola Gratia” continues that streak and serves as a wonderfully crafted prequel to “Sola Scriptura.” This is a very, strong start to a new decade for Neal Morse, and the sky continues to be the limit for his phenomenal career.

Favorite Tracks: “Never Change”, “Now I Can See/The Great Commission”, “The Glory of the Lord”, “Seemingly Sincere”, “The Light on the Road to Damascus”, “Warmer than the Sunshine”, “Sola Intermezzo”, “Overture”, “Ballyhoo(The Chosen Ones)”, “Overture”, “March of the Pharisees”

Score: 9.6/10
1Red (USA)
Declaration

At the end of the day, I always rank the album I have a bigger connection the highest, because I mean that’s what it comes down to right? What do you enjoy and connect with the most? This is that album for 2020. I love their music with all of my heart and soul, and that can’t be understated. In my mind, there wasn’t any other album in 2020 that could’ve taken this #1 spot. Thank you guys for making this year more tolerable for me and all the other RED fans out there!

Favorite Tracks: “Infidel”, “The Evening Hate”, “Cauterize”, “Sever”, “All For You”, “Float”, “The Victim”, “The War We Made”, “From the Ashes”(Pretty much the entire album)

Score: 9.6/10
