ABR Leveler Ranking

Hype list for the newly re-recorded Leveler coming next month. I hoped they’d do a remix like they did for constellations but they took it one step further with reworked parts and guest spots. Pretty cool, looking forward to it. Always felt like this was an underrated album of theirs.
1August Burns Red
Leveler

Carpe Diem / Could be my favourite ABR song ever. Definitely in the top 5. I get goosebumps almost every time from the lyrics and the back and forth vocal deliveries. Really great.
2August Burns Red
Leveler

Internal Cannon / I think this was the first single off the album? When I first heard it, I wasn’t too sure about it because of the middle salsa-like section. One of ABR’s first forays into what would become a signature style of mid-song switch-ups. Really dig everything about this song now, though. Also, the acoustic version is vital ABR.
3August Burns Red
Leveler

Divisions / Not sure if this one will confuse anyone, but other than Carpe Diem, this is the ABR song that gives me the most feels. The drum patterns are pretty tight on this one and the vocal delivery is awesome.
4August Burns Red
Leveler

Pangea / Just a straight-up banger of a song. Great instrumentation and energy.
5August Burns Red
Leveler

Cutting the Ties / Another banger. Couple great time signature change-ups that I wasn’t expecting which makes this pretty interesting.
6August Burns Red
Leveler

Leveler / Is this the only title track they have? Great album closer and one of their heaviest songs IMO. Can’t wait to hear how heavy it sounds re-recorded.
7August Burns Red
Leveler

Boys of Fall / Great song. Pretty emotional-sounding leads. Ties in well with the little preceding interlude.
8August Burns Red
Leveler

40 Nights / Took me a while to like this song as much as I do now. Love the energy this one gives off. What’s the word I’m looking for? Urgency.
9August Burns Red
Leveler

Poor Millionaire / Still great, but I think the breakdown at the end drags on a bit too long.
10August Burns Red
Leveler

Empire / This might be a lot lower here than it would be on other people’s lists (if anyone cared to make a Leveler ranking), but I don’t really get the love for this song. The solo is pretty cool and it was great when I heard it live, but as an opening track it feels a bit underwhelming for some reason.
11August Burns Red
Leveler

Salt & Light / I don’t even listen to this track anymore tbh. Felt like filler but maybe the re-recorded version will pique my interest.
12August Burns Red
Leveler

1/16/2011 / Doesn’t really count as a song anyways. The version I have on my iPod combines this with Boys of Fall. Probably should’ve been released like that anyways.
