| Give me your AOTD! Hand it over!
I want to eventually make a list of my favorite albums of the last 5 years, but I need more... Comment yours and explain why it's here and I will listen to it and give my thoughts and maybe rank them all later. | | 1 | | Alex G God Save The Animals
(Me) (2022)
I have lots to say about this album but I will say that Alex G strikes a sweet spot between everything I love about this style of indie rock, from the emotionally driven lyrics to the wide range of experimental and simple sounds. | | 2 | | Skee Mask Pool
Ryus (2021)
This is some of the best dnb/breakbeat/what-have-you that I’ve ever heard. This pool holds some smooth, cold, watery beats and breaks. I checked this once before, dipping my toes in, but now I’ve been fully submersed. I can see why this is Ryus’ album of the decade. 4.5 | | 3 | | ...and Oceans Cosmic World Mother
Hawks (2020)
I didn’t expect I’d like this as much as I do. Death metal that isn’t unintelligible? And has a dynamic and engaging drummer who doesn’t rely on a constant machine gun tempo? I might even hear vocal melodies?? I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of this before. I can sort of understand why this is Hawks' AOTD. It does drag a bit towards the end. 3.5 | | 4 | | Big Thief Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
Snake. (2022)
I’ve already heard this and upon revisit it still sounds as timeless as ever. Obvious but essential pick. Most of the first disc ranks among their best songs, and the second disc pulls its weight as well. Little Things, Certainty, Change, the T/T, Simulation Swarm, Heavy Bend, etc. Great choice for AOTD Snake. 4.5 | | 5 | | Chepang Swatta
Johnny (2023)
Grind isn’t really my thing but I really respect the four sides’ versatility, I probably won’t be returning to this again, because what a monster this is. I definitely understand why it’s Johnny's AOTD. 3 | | 6 | | Elbow Flying Dream 1
Zak (2021)
This was lovely. I do believe I’ll have to check out more from Elbow later on because you’re absolutely right zak, these songs take a bit to grow on you but they are worth the effort, especially After the Eclipse and What Am I Without You. I love the guy’s voice, and I love how soft everything is and how personal and sweet the lyrics are. But it takes a bit to distinguish one song from another as they are all rather slow paced. Everything about this says plainly, “album of the decade”. 3.5 | | 7 | | Daniel Rossen You Belong There
Someone (2022)
Really solid, lovely art-pop. Great melodies and arrangements that are very distinctively Grizzly Bear, and in particular the addition of strings and horns with guitar. I will be returning to Shadow in the Frame, It’s a Passage, I’ll Wait For Your Visit, and a few others. I can see why this is your AOTD someone. 4 | | 8 | | Fever Ray Radical Romantics
Fogza (2023) | | 9 | | Scarcity Aveilut
Demon (2022) | | 10 | | Defeated Sanity The Sanguinary Impetus

skee mask - pool | Hawks
05.31.24 | Hmmmm my fav album of the past decade atm has to be Cosmic World Mother by ...and Oceans. Idk if its your thing but mixes non cheesy symphonic bm with heavy industrial and electronic tendencies. Atmosphere of that album is unmatched for me. | Snake.
05.31.24 | dragon new warm mountain I believe in you | JohnnyoftheWell
05.31.24 | ^lol
from what you haven't rated, ig Chepang - Swatta | zakalwe
05.31.24 | Among the contenders
Paradise Lost - Obsidian
Nils Frahm - Music for Animals
Pendragon - Love Over Fear
The Chemical Brothers - For That Beautiful Feeling
Amyl and the Sniffers - Comfort to Me
I'm going for Elbow - Flying Dream 1.
An album that on the first few listens is distinctly hum drum develops into one of the most life affirming albums of all time.
| Squiggly
05.31.24 | That's a good point zak, it takes time to let an album become a classic after all. Thanks for everyone's contributions so far. | someone
05.31.24 | so any of my AOTY from the last 5 years but only one, did i get that right? | Hawks
05.31.24 | I think u added the wrong Zak album brother lmao. | someone
05.31.24 | Daniel Rossen - You Belong There (2022)
i wrote a whole-ass review explaining why you should listen, but in a nutshell: for an album half-constructed from instruments he cannot play, this b is about as intricate a progressive folk as it possibly gets. absolutely staggering and hauntingly beautiful. but be careful, it may require patience and revision in order to blossom fully for you | fogza
05.31.24 | I'd go with Fever Ray - Radical Romantics | zakalwe
05.31.24 | U added the wrong album brother lmao | Hawks
05.31.24 | Knew it!! | zakalwe
05.31.24 | Squiggly eyes innit | Demon of the Fall
05.31.24 | Scarcity - Aveilut
nice Bolt Cutters 5 (considered it)
also considered a few others, but I'll go for one that's unlikely to be on anyone else's radar | Hawks
05.31.24 | Damn Demon nice pick. M/// | evilford
05.31.24 | Ad Nauseam - Nihil Quam Vacuitas Ordinatum Est | Squiggly
05.31.24 | My bad zak, it's fixed now.
Ford, did you mean the other Ad Nauseum album, because the one you put is from 2015. | evilford
05.31.24 | Oh I guess I was thinking album of the last decade. 2015 would be 9 years ago. But itd be The Sanguinary Impetus by Defeated Sanity if NQVOE doesn't count | DoofDoof
05.31.24 | The Bathers - Sirenesque
The comeback of the century so far! | Squiggly
05.31.24 | Sounds good ford, sorry if that wasn’t clear. | Zac124
05.31.24 | It's a tough choice between Every Time I Die - Radical and The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist. I think today I will go with the Daoboys. | evilford
06.01.24 | I tend to not read everything on a regular basis so it was probably just my bad lol | Havey
06.05.24 | Joelle Leandre, Pauline Oliveros, George Lewis – Play As You Go | Squiggly
