Ranking Songs: Hotel Last Resort by Violent Femmes
They released a new album that I enjoyed it. Here are the songs ranked. |
| 1 | Violent Femmes I Get What I Want
A classically great Violent Femmes song that could have possible fit in their first couple of albums as it mixes twisted lyrics with an amazingly catchy chorus. |
| 2 | Paris to Sleep
Just simply an overall amazing slow banger with great instrumentation and lyrics with ambiguous meaning. I love relaxing with this song. |
| 3 | I’m Nothing
A really great, topical, and upbeat reimagination of the song of the same name in their album “New Times” where in that album it felt like it was missing more “noise”. |
| 4 | Adam Was a Man
I don’t really care for the religious aspect of the song I just really get down with the guitar-horn mix in it. |
| 5 | I’m Not Gonna Cry
A cool/weird-in-a-good-way highlight off the album which is probably the result of it being a translation of a foreign song. |
| 6 | Another Chorus
I’ve heard some pretty mixed opinions on this song, but I hear it as a great opener even if the lyrics and vocals are pretty simple. |
| 7 | It’s All or Nothing
Like “Not Ok” it is just another enjoyable Violent Femmes song. |
| 8 | Not OK
Just a normal good Violent Femmes song. |
| 9 | Hotel Last Resort
I really like the instrumentation but the lyrics get really off putting towards the end of the song. |
| 10 | God Bless America
I like the dark edge put in the instrumental to contrast with the original song. |
| 11 | Everlasting You
It is a nice upbeat and happy song, but it feels a little repetitive. |
| 12 | This Free Ride
The song feels unfinished. Vocals are nice though. |
| 13 | Sleeping’ At the Meetin’
This song feels more like a bonus track than one for the first release of the album. |
