Best punk records of 2018
Leave your suggestions in the comment section. Outside of my top 5, I've got these listed in no particular order. |
1 | | The Creeps Beneath The Pines
I slept on this one for most of the year. Don't make the same mistake that I did. Highlights are Shimmer & Full Shook. Fans of Menzingers, Spanish Love Songs, etc. will really dig how these guys have progressed as a band. |
2 | | Shook Ones Body Feel
Loved this one from the first second of song one. |
3 | | The Brokedowns Sick Of Space
Just go listen to this album. Now. Can't get these tunes out of my head. |
4 | | IDLES Joy as an Act of Resistance
Maybe the best album of the year in terms of lyrical content? Hits me hard every time I rotate this one. |
5 | | Iron Chic Iron Chic/Toys That Kill
Seriously, this fucking rips. Bought for IC, stayed for Toys That Kill. Highlights on each side are Amazing Fantasy/Where Have All the Kids Gone? |
6 | | Drug Church CHEER
Not much I need to say about Drug Church. They fucking rule. They've progressed as song writers and it shows on tracks like Unlicensed Guidance Counselor. I still prefer Paul Walker, but this is a solid album. |
7 | | Swingin' Utters Peace and Love
The Utters are still putting out solid tunes after all of these years. Took me a couple of spins to get into this one, but there are a few ear worms on this one. |
8 | | Gouge Away Burnt Sugar
I'd put this one up there with IDLES in terms of lyrical content. Listen to 'Sweat' and try not to get stoked. |
9 | | Spanish Love Songs Schmaltz
I like this album. A lot. |
10 | | The Penske File Salvation
If you get a chance to see these dudes live, it's a fucking party. Go check 'em out. |
11 | | Krimewatch Krimewatch
This EP is what punk rock should be. Maybe the most underrated band around. |
12 | | Culture Abuse Bay Dream
Still working this one into my rotation. I dig it, but need to give it a few more listens before I say anything of substance. |
13 | | Turnstile Time and Space
Turnstile fucking rules. I love the Gorgoroth-esque riff at the beginning of (Lost Another) Piece of My World. |
14 | | No Problem Let God Sort Em Out
Adding this one after having it recommended in the comments section. Listened to it and loved it immediately. Some straight-forward hardcore that I initially overlooked. |
15 | | Night Birds Roll Credits
These guys haven't disappointed me yet. Another solid, albeit not necessarily phenomenal release. |
16 | | DeeCRACKS Sonic Delusions
The best pop-punk band currently out there. The Eddie & the Hotrods cover might be better than the original. These guys are a ton of fun. |
17 | | Chaser Sound the Sirens
Skate punk that draws heavy influence from the late 90's Epi-Fat craze. |
18 | | Hysterese Hysterese III
Fans of Sing the Sorrow era AFI will love this one. A little less dark/goth feeling, but the singer is a dead ringer for Davey Havoc. |
