3/5
while i do think this album is overhated, it is definitely the weakest slipknot album. it feels like it's full but in reality it's bloated with no real meat to it. the first five tracks of the album shows promise and gives off an energetic but dreadful air, but it starts to grow stale with vendetta and wherein lies continue (which is one of the worst slipknot songs). not bad though, songs like snuff and all hope is gone carry the genuine song writing from themes of heartbreak to politics, making sure the album doesn't end on a low point.
favorite tracks: .execute., gematria, sulfur, psychosocial, dead memories, this cold black, snuff, all hope is gone, child of burning time | 2 | | Slipknot Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.

very much a slow burn and i had never listened to this album before, so this was interesting. probably one of slipknot's most chilling releases while also just being really fucking weird sometimes. it even has disco influence, coupled with some death metal influence as well. it's odd but very enjoyable. my only qualms are the vocals are only great when screaming and it feels a little inconsistent, but that's the sacrifice you make when you set out to make an incredibly polarizing first release
favorite tracks: gently, only one, confessions, killers are quiet | 3 | | Slipknot .5: The Gray Chapter

this has a bit more of a raw sound to it than AHIG did, it kind of reminds me of the earlier days but only a little. the album has the same dreary feeling as AHIG, but it manages to be a bit more cohesive and almost empowering at points, but only really succeeding with songs like goodbye and skeptic. it is more cohesive certainly but it starts to wear down after a bit, though it is definitely telling a story about recovery and tragedy.
favorite tracks: xix, sarcastrophe, aov, the devil in i, skeptic, lech, goodbye, the one that kills the least, custer, the negative one | 4 | | Slipknot Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses

their most commercial album by far, though it has plenty of gems to appreciate. they lose a bit of aggression and traction they had in their previous work, but it lets me enjoy the musicianship and writing a little more than just raw energy and emotion. vermillion part 2 is good but it feels like filler, the heavier tracks leave me wanting more. overall a solid slipknot album in a different form.
favorite tracks: the blister exists, three nil, duality, opium of the people, vermillion, pulse of the maggots, before i forget, the nameless, the virus of life | 5 | | Slipknot Slipknot

extremely energetic and the slower tracks are incredibly creepy, but i find myself leaning towards the much more fast paced tracks. corey's vocals are very immature here but that makes it much more raw for me, the same goes for it musically.
favorite tracks: (sic), eyeless, wait and bleed, surfacing, spit it out, prosthetics, no life, diluted, scissors | 6 | | Slipknot Iowa

a wall of noise. honestly fantastic album that only has a few quality dips, but it brings out feelings in me that i almost never recognize. i keep forgetting it exists. it's such a powerful album that it just pulls so many unresolved issues in your brain out for you to look at. it makes you feel weak and powerful at the same time. it's a barrier of rage, even when things get soft, they sound desperate but beyond angry. i love this album.
favorite tracks: people=shit, disasterpiece, my plague, everything ends, gently, left behind, the shape, i am hated, new abortion, metabolic | |
