| Country that was missing
These are country albums that were not on the site and are worth a listen. None of this is Nashville stuff. Some weird, some rocky, some odd, you know good. | 1 | | Robert Earl Keen No. 2 Live Dinner
Absolutely fantastic live album from one of the great storytellers in country music. Not a skip on it | 2 | | Pat Green George's Bar
Tremendous album from front to back with multiple songs that would have been hits if released on a major label. | 3 | | The Bellamy Brothers The Two and Only
Certainly hit or miss, but the hits are worth it. Raunchy, smoky, chill, and loving; only the 70's can sound like this. | 4 | | Hank Williams III Ghost to a Ghost / Gutter Town
Huge two part collection that is great from start to finish. The first part is traditional country with some fast paced bluegrass/metal mixed parts interspersed. The second half is a southern gothic horror show with a really creepy swamp infused ambiance. It seems to me that he is channeling his granddad, really awesome.
This is an undiscovered masterpiece. Note: I did not add this one, it is just too good to leave off. | |

09.07.23 | I gave up on adding lots of the old 40/50s country twang on here - would be endless hours :( | hillbillyag
09.07.23 | Yeah, almost 90% of country albums aren't even listed. I am not the biggest country fan, but enjoy some of it. It is at least a legitimate musical genre that should be accurately represented even if it is not to the taste of most on the site. | Above
09.07.23 | bellamy brothers have some good tunes. saw pat green live once but was wasted. wave on wave baby | hillbillyag
09.07.23 | I was hammered every time I saw Pat Green as well. I never saw him after he got the big record contract. Wave on Wave was his biggest hit, I believe. The Bellamy Brothers are definitely a singles band. Pretty good in concert as well. | PitchforkArms
09.07.23 | I am one of the sputbro country contingent - though I seem to lean more into the very very early stuff while lots of the homies on here like more of the 60s and onwards stuff. The pre-60s stuff is very tough because "albums" as we know them were very rare - lots of standards compilations, instead. | hillbillyag
09.07.23 | I looked through your profile and ratings. You have some similar stylistic tastes, while leaning a little heavier on metal. Of the albums I listed the Hank III is the most similar to the early country you seem to prefer. It is a call back to his grandad on the first half, although it has a little of his strange metal/country mix a few times. I agree, it is difficult to rate anything pre 60's because of the lack of album focus. I would love to rate some of the early standards, but haven't listened to whole albums. I share your love of Billie Holiday | Ryus
09.07.23 | never heard hank williams iii but grandpappy is the goat
i should check him | hillbillyag
09.07.23 | It is a commitment to listen to the whole album, but it is a worthwhile experience. I do not understand why it never hit. Either my musical tastes are completely incompatible with the rest of the world or that album will become a classic belatedly. Hank III's albums are mostly metal/punk/countrygore, but this one is much more traditional country. | PitchforkArms
09.08.23 | Oh man, I haven't listened to much metal the last 5 years - has really been country and hip hop. Well maybe now I'll go and add some of my all time fav country comps to have my ratings more accurately describe my tastes. I'll listen to a little Hank III and let you know what I think! | hillbillyag
09.08.23 | Looking forward to it. Always good to hear others takes on music. Especially unpopular music that no one has ever heard to even talk about. | SomeCallMeTim
