DoofDoof: Doof: a Top 100... minus My Top 100

DoofDoof 02.02.24	Ryus - yeah in a few of these cases the best songs are all that counts in a way...though I do find that album consistent enough myself
DoofDoof 02.02.24	So this list is partly 'the albums that made me' outside of my actual top 100 sort of deal but also something else too, it's not the next hundred highest rated albums in terms of quality I've heard...I'm interested if some people think this is stronger than my actual top 100. I'm also interested if this list or the official top 100 is the more 'doofcore' :/

DoofDoof 02.02.24	I guess the way I'd describe it is this selection of albums would probably work better as a haul of 'desert island discs' than my actual top 100 - due to variety mostly
DoofDoof 02.02.24	'cool list, but what’s all this “evocative of the time” nonsense?' so if you asked me "what albums do you associate with a 'given year?" then these are the ones I just remember from that time the most and bring back dem memories In a lot of cases this is one of the factors I end up most liking about an album - usually it'll need to be very good to get to the point of becoming evocative for me, it'll need A LOT of plays - plus some music lends itself better to that factor (so that is where this factor might directly influence my actual rating) evocative in this case means 'evocative for my life at the time I got into it' and not necessarily evocative of the era it was released - though sometimes they are that too of course ;)
DoofDoof 02.02.24	to put in context, last year I probably only got into ten or so albums that will be genuinely evocative for me in the future, most albums can be very good but they won't get there I won't know which ones for sure until about ten years time :'(

DoofDoof 02.02.24	Cruiser, Void and Smokey are all time greats for me - I’d say Cruiser is now my overall favourite Koz Agree on Moorestown… but also Blue Orchids

zakalwe 02.02.24	7 is the complete opposite for me. The American rock thing in the early 90s as absolutely life changing as it was (there has still not been a better ‘pop cultural’ period for me)it had dried out massively by the time Mellon Collie came out. Britpop took over by then and as something to get behind it was so much more invigorating and tangible. Mellon Colie was just a bloated mess. I still think that despite some classic tunes on it. At the time I don’t think anyone saw it as better than Siamese Dream or breathing life into alt rock. Kurt died, everything died.
ReefaJones 02.02.24	I agree that Mellon Collie is worse than Siamese Dream but I'll still take it over anything Oasis or similar shitpop bands at the time did

DoofDoof 02.03.24	Siamese Dream is obviously ahead of it for me but that is in my top 20 of my actual top 100 I think I mucked up this list in that I should have put it chronologically by the date range when I most listened to the album

zakalwe 02.03.24	List is an absolute whopper. I listened to a lot of 68 around 2005-2007 as well. It has one of the greatest closers of all time on it.
DoofDoof 02.03.24	Think the list shows I had the least connection with music between 2008-2010 sort of time - I’d say the only time I might have said the football was more important to me than music. The ultimate singleton time, was really going out a lot and dating people - not my happy place that time. Yeah Zak, that album really takes me back to the time - one of those albums I’d have listened to loads and then probably dropped totally for years and years. Sometimes that just cements an album to the time of your life. He’s good at closers is E. Dewi - the other 30% are in my official top 100 ;)

fogza 02.03.24	24 was also my first Richard Thompson, interesting. Super excited to see him live in June

Demon of the Fall 02.03.24	This is definitely a list of someone who lived through the 90s and liked a rock music. Funny that it took me a couple of years being on this site to realise who you really are Doof. I get what you mean now about the evocative thing, thought it must be a personal experience sort of deal.

DoofDoof 02.03.24	Demon - it's almost as far from a 101-200 list as you could possibly get, yes. Nothing under a 92% rating would make the cut for that. So the first twenty of these would qualify for an actual 101-200 based on my ratings I guess, maybe not the GLB even. Think of this more a compilation of albums that would probably have featured near the top of my 'top 100 albums' lists throughout my life but hadn't quite the 'objective' quality to stay up there or don't appeal to my current tastes as much, plus some stuff close to my most highly played guilty pleasures in the bottom half. Probably some of my most played albums of all time can be found here too - The Real Thing, Appetite for Destruction, Aenima, Korn, Around the Fur, Chaos AD, 1972, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Superunknown, The Fat of the Land, etc... It's also very much '90s kid' taste a lot of the time yup - but there's a reason my actual top 100 is far removed from this list, I listen to a far wider variety of stuff than when I was younger.
DoofDoof 02.03.24	I'd say all the following albums from this list have been my 'top album of all time' sometime during their 'most played' period: MJ 'Bad' (8 year old me) Guns n Roses 'Appetite' (10 year old me) Faith No More 'The Real Thing'(13 year old me) Korn 'Korn' (yes, really - 16 year old me) Tool 'Aenima' (yes, really really - 17 year old me) you can see that I had a tough time between 16 and 17 - clearly I had some issues, bit of late onset teen awkwardness there, stubbornly clinging on to my copy of Kerrang by '97 'Ok Computer' became my favourite and I moved beyond being a stubborn 'black T'...then in '99 I started listening to The The a lot again and since then 'Infected' has been my favourite, my top album never changes anymore sadly

Kid in my class gave me a taped tape of it. 6 was massive with my cohort at HS 7 ditto 22 ditto - Saw this tour, one of my first shows 29 first Seps too. I saw the Territory video on rage and sat bolt upright 34 same, most played and adored ‘deth 37 my mate got me into this and was played at every party att 39 my fav STP. Love every song 40 was so big it took over 60 brilliant album 61 again everyone loved this album and played in most garages att 62 ditto 69 first saw a FF t shirt at a bonfire around then and knew it was metal so invested in the album. One of fav albums OAT. Saw this tour as a young metalhead 70 are we the same early 90’s kid doof?? 73 ditto! 89 my fav BS, this is getting silly 99 agree again with this one
DoofDoof 02.04.24	Zak - Nevermind would have been my favourite for a year when it came out too Winesburg - sounds like you completed sex at the first attempt there Muzz - quality picks, all essentials at the time! If you want a shot of the ‘90s you might dig 97 if you never tried it before. 94 is a lot of fun too and one that maybe shoulda/coulda made the list is the Pride and Glory Zakk Wylde album which is classic
