| 1987: Doof's Top 10 Songs
Hmmm, we're starting to approach the middle of the '80s and closer to the period I (partially) regard as the peak of 'bad '80s' stuff...so it feels like a little less choice for me, though that also might be I've focused less on these years. Still, I like this selection even if it's significantly weaker to '88 and '89, only two new discoveries in the last five years. | 1 | | David Sylvian Secrets of the Beehive

04.12.21 | Some intriguing runners up:
- Tom Waits, Way Down in the Hole
- The Cure, How Beautiful You Are
- Pet Shop Boys, It's a Sin
- The Sisters of Mercy, Flood I
- Deacon Blues, Ragman
- Microdisney, Town to Town
- The Go-Betweens, The House that Jack Kerouac Built
- Tom Verlaine, The Scientist Writes a Letter | Gyromania
04.12.21 | your number 1 pick is SO good that i'm willing to look past the fact that you put a guns n roses song in this list | JohnnyoftheWell
04.12.21 | gonna throw a c u r v e b a l l and say that Flood II > Flood I
also 2 is probably the best song ever recorded with guitar instruments gj | DoofDoof
04.12.21 | Gyro, if you loved G n' R at the time (most people did) then to not put a song by them in this list would be the height of poseur revisionism so I had to - the soundtrack to two years at school at the very least
I've sort of come to peace with G n' R now, they have their place for me even if I don't rate any of their albums above a 3.5
Similar situation with the MJ pick, it had to be there because of my childhood, whatever I or anyone thinks of him now. I covered both in my 'Band of the Week' list on RYM so I really know where I stand with them having listened to their complete discogs recently | DoofDoof
04.12.21 | Johnny I've not listened to much Sisters of Mercy recently - I only played 'Flood I' last night to see if I still dig and whether it could make a late charge for the top 10, might have to revisit their (small) discog soon
You could well be right, that whole album is pretty good, guess a lot of people would choose 'This Corrosion' but I'm never totally sold it deserves 11 minutes of tape | CaliggyJack
04.12.21 | Very good list! Appetite might also be on my list but Welcome to the Jungle prolly won't be the song I choose from it. | Mort.
04.12.21 | thats a very strong 1,2,3 run | Pheromone
04.12.21 | you've been struck by | DoofDoof
04.12.21 | Mort - 1-3 was one of the easiest set of picks so far in these lists | NorthernSkylark
04.12.21 | ... a doof criminal | DoofDoof
04.12.21 | probably his best song? got to be top three | zakalwe
04.13.21 | Michael Jackson is unmatched when it comes to popularity and sheer global massiveness. Beyond compare.
Back in the late eighties with Bad, Moonwalker and all that it was absolutely amazing. A true ‘superstar’
Good times to be an 8yr old, unless you took a trip to Neverland.
