Jinjer vs. Infected Rain
Seems that these two bands (and associated lead singers) are often mentioned and compared to one another. Partly because of the bands' origins (Jinjer from Ukraine, IR from Moldova), but also as both bands employ strong female lead vocals - in both a harsh and clean style. IR is often dismissed as the lesser of the two bands...but I'm not so convinced of that. IMO, Lena Scissorhands (of IR) has a more dynamic vocal range than Tatiana Shmayluk (Jinjer) and significantly better cleans; but Tatiana does have deeper and more powerful harsh vocals. So here goes a discography comparison. Both bands started releasing music around 2008/2009. Will compare album by album (or EP by EP), and update as I move through the listenings. In the meantime - Let me know your thoughts. |
1 | | Jinjer Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear
IR - Judgmental Trap EP (2009) vs. Jinjer - Objects in Mirror are Closer than they Appear (2009). This is an easy win for IR - as this was Jinjer before Tatiana. Not a bad EP, but apparently no member of Jinjer still remains from this lineup. |
2 | | Infected Rain Asylum
IR - Asylum (2011) vs. Jinjder - Inhale, Don't Breathe (2013). Specifically referring to the 2013 version of "Inhale, Don't Breathe" - with the three additional live tracks. |
3 | | Jinjer Cloud Factory
IR - Embrace Eternity (2014) vs. Jinjer - Cloud Factory (2014) |
4 | | Infected Rain 86
IR - 86 (2017) vs. Jinjer - King of Everything (2016). Both bands really step out from their past work on these two albums, expanding their musical palette and sound. I hesitate to say that King of Everything is...perhaps...the most accessible of Jinjer's albums? |
5 | | Jinjer Macro
IR - Endorphin (2019) vs. Jinjer - Macro (2019). Jinjer buckles down on harsh vocals and djent stylings. Converselety, IR broadens their lyrical scope and breadth. Have to pick IR here. |
6 | | Infected Rain Ecdysis
IR - Ecdysis (2022) vs. Jinjer - Wallflowers (2021) |
7 | | Jinjer Alive In Melbourne
IR - The Devils Dozen (2023) vs Jinjer - Alive in Melbourne (2020) |
8 | | Seas On The Moon Sanctuary
Bonus: Jinjer - Micro (2019) vs. Seas on the Moon - Sanctuary (2020). The later is a separate band from Moldova featuring Lena Scissorhands on lead vocals for this EP. |
