06.25.23 | discordance axis, defeated sanity, deeds of flesh, death, rolo tomassi, red chord, capsule, fugazi, nasum, assuck, wormrot. theres tons of bands that have at least one outlier or their reunion albums are good-great but not legendary : at the drive-in, the number twelve looks like you, mr. bungle, suffocation, cephalic carnage, meshuggah, mars volta, radiohead, brainiac, faith no more, beastie boys, sadus, deftones, sublime, converge, glassjaw, cave-in, dead kennedys,

PotsyTater
06.25.23 | I mean it would be a lot easier to come up with examples if the metric was that all of the artists albums are merely passable, but a perfect discog to me means they all have to be like 4+ at LEAST |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.25.23 | Depends on the artist - longer discogs deserve a slight allowance if they uphold a certain standard imo (e.g. Ichiko Aoba only has two 4+ studio albums, but these are backed by a load of pretty-great LPs and a ton of exemplary live recordings so gets a pass)
High af ceiling, no flukes and nothing even approaching a miss are the musts I think. Second rule disqualifies one-and-dones and short weirdo discogs like Slint, so maybe there can be balance |

MoM
06.25.23 | Exactly. Not bad, but those LPs be spinnin |
Kompys2000
06.25.23 | "Why the hell would you wish for an artist you like to have misses"
1) that's not what I said, I obviously hope to like all of [artist I like]'s stuff, but I usually don't and that fact does not bother me because 2) "bad music" can still offer insights on an artist's process/perspective or encourage a greater appreciation for their successes elsewhere or chart a limit to their abilities that might be kept in mind going forward, and I enjoy all of those things regardless of whether the notez themselves produce maximum dopamine in my brain, especially when I'm invested in said artist's career |

PotsyTater
06.25.23 | Sure Itās not what you said but the insinuation was that you preferred or assigned more value to discogs with missteps hence the paraphrasing
I can understand that reasoning. I used to think listening to bad music or music I didnāt enjoy in general offered certain types of insights on a more personal level (becoming more and more discerning about what I like in music and what makes good music good etc) but Iāve never really cared to look at a bands process and perspective as critically as to analyze their bad albums and view that as a positive insight. I donāt care too much about what made an artist I like write a bad album I just want to hear a good album lol |

That said, Digable Planets probably is perfect.
