BlownSpeakers
06.26.17 | Dang, I'm not a fan of Era Vulgaris these days. When it came out I loved it, but it hasn't aged well for me. |
artiswar
06.26.17 | that's only because your taste got shittier as you got older. |

06.26.17 | I'd say your ranking is correct. |

BlownSpeakers
06.26.17 | That was going to be the part where you make some good points about the album to support your claim, but yeah dude-bro. 10/10 for defying convention. |
L4titudes
06.27.17 | I agree |
artiswar
06.27.17 | Into The Hollow, Misfit Love, Battery Acid, Suture Up Your Future, River In The Road, Run Pig Run... hell I'll go there, I'll even throw in Make It Wit Chu.
the fact that I have to defend why this album is a classic rather than you articulating why it's not seems absurd somehow. if you don't appreciate those songs then honestly I'm just confused as a semi-obsessed Queens fan. |
EyesWideShut
06.27.17 | only thing i know is that new one last. |
artiswar
06.27.17 | I agree with that but only because Clockwork totally wrecked my expectations of this band in a bad way. So I guess I understand where BlownSpeakers is coming from in a way, I just can't comprehend it. |
dbizzles
06.27.17 | I'm going to be honest here. I don't know if I've ever heard the s/t. Is it any good or what?
Like Clockwork
Songs for the Deaf
Rated R
Lullabies to Paralyze
Era Vulgaris
S/T by default |

06.27.17 | S/T is fucking incredible. Sometimes it feels a bit like a dumbed down Rated R but it's fucking badass, don't let anyone tell you different. Album jams and then some. If you haven't heard You Can't Quit Me Baby then you haven't lived. |

06.27.17 | Like Clockwork # 1
*puts gun in mouth as a single tear drops* |
dbizzles
06.27.17 | Ayyyy, after browsing the tracklist, I realize I have heard a few of them. But I bet I've never heard it all in one go.
I think Like Clockwork is mostly my number 1 and only 5 because I was a filthy casual before that came out and it gave me a whole new perspective and drive to dig deeper into their other albums (sans s/t). SFTD is just behind it for me and rules hard. Rated R is also fantastic, but doesn't have as many killer tracks, imo. Lullabies is good, but just never grabbed me the same and Era Vulgaris is pretty decent.
|
artiswar
06.27.17 | But nothing else they've done sounds remotely like Clockwork so that must have been an interesting journey backwards... going from Clockwork to Era Vulgaris and vice versa is jarring as fuck to say the least. |
dbizzles
06.27.17 | It wasn't that I hadn't heard any of the earlier albums, but I was mostly just into their singles other than SFTD. I was familiar with them just didn't have the level of respect and appreciation I gained after LC. |
neekafat
06.27.17 | Yeah tbh
I discog'd them pretty quick and just going from Era to LC in order on its own was pretty jarring |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | Don't like Into The Hollow, Battery Acid, Suture Up Your Future, or River in the Road. I do like Make it Wit Chu, but it seemed awkward to put it on the album after having it around for so many years. For me, it didn't sound like he had much to sing about on that album, as opposed to ...Like Clockwork, where he goes beyond the usual sex and drugs subject matter. |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | I don't hate Era Vulgaris, it's just not one of my favorites. |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | The first album does have a lot of sick songs on there -- Avon, Regular John, Mexicola, If Only. There's some cool jams on there too, but some go on for too long. I also think Homme hadn't perfected his vocal style at that point, and having Oliveri on the album would have added some more dynamics. But for a first outing, and having Homme do pretty much everything minus drums, it's incredibly impressive. |
artiswar
06.27.17 | can we at least agree You Can't Quit Me Baby is quintessential QotSA |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | You don't need to be a "filthy casual" to think LC is the best. I started listening to queens when SFTD came out and still rank it up high. |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | Yes, it's a fantastic track. I'm not trying to purposely disagree with you on everything, we just have very different opinions on a masterful discography. It's all good. |
Demon of the Fall
06.27.17 | 1, 3, 2, 5, 4, 6

06.27.17 | 'Like Clockwork is mostly my number 1 and only 5 because I was a filthy casual before that came out'
Like Clockwork is only just edged out by one of my all-time favourite albums that I've been listening to for 15 years. Don't need to qualify your opinion with the 'filthy casual' thing, haha |
BlownSpeakers
06.27.17 | Agreed. |

06.28.17 | Lullabies was the soundtrack of my life during a short but crazy stretch of high school. It doesn't resonate with me like it used to anymore but it's still a really interesting record if a bit inconsistent. You Got A Killer Scene There Man still to this day remains a personal jam. |
