08.04.19 Chonky Dubs, Pt. I 11.04.18 2018 In Drum & Bass

Chonky Dubs, Pt. I

The love for deep dubstep is severely lacking around here, so I'm out to showcase some of the genre's countless gems, both new and old, in this multi-part list series.

If you scoop the VIP Memebership on the underground dubstep label Version Collective's bandcamp, this hecka girthy plate of 3 nut cracking 140's can be all yours. Actually, that VIP Membership is 3000% worth the reasonable price, and this is just a real nice layer of icing on that bass cake.
2Bengal Sound
Culture Clash

This independently released cassette-only album spins an absolutely unique lofi vibe.. think backalley-VHS-martial-arts-movie-soundtrack-meets-classic-deep-dubstep. It's a real thing, and if you do a little digging, there ARE some digital rips out there too.
F_ck Mountain/Good Grief

This 12" off Hotline Recordings is simply an exemplary vinyl-only dubplate that's well worth its weight in wax. Knuckledraggers will be happy to know there's a couple hifi flac rips floating in the bowels of the interweb too.
Let Them/Earths Orbit

Just listen to it. A shitty description by yours truly wouldn't do it justice.

Dubamine's sole LP to date is, in my opinion, one of modern dubstep's high watermarks. Spacey wobbles married to earthy dub sensibilities in perfect balance all the way through. Honestly, if I could only recommend one dubstep release, this would be it. The mon like Dubamine couldn't have picked a better name for this fat brick of excellence.

This 10" off Unity Through Sound is the dubplate to end all dubplates. Find it. Seriously.
7Sorrow (UK)

Sorrow has been straying from the future garage angle for a while now, and for many fans like me, it's not seen as a bad thing. The dude's production chops and knowledge of 140bpm braggadocio lends itself well to purist dubstep, and with Phantom he once again works in just enough of his trademark pulchritude and creativity to make it stand out on the proverbial shelf.
Haze VIP

All three tracks off this timeless Artikal Music release are absolute bangers. You'd be hella remiss to skip this one.
