Recent Gets

Music I've acquired over the past month
1The Mountain Goats
All Hail West Texas

CD (digipak)
Lo-fi / Indie Folk (4.4)

Merge remaster includes 6 bonus tracks (Nice but not essential) and an essay by John Darnielle on the writing and recording of the album.
2The Mountain Goats

CD (jewel case)
Indie rock / Soft rock (4.3)

Liner notes include additional illustrations by cover artist Leela Corman, lyrics are a bit hard to read due to the font though.
3Stevie Wonder
Songs in the Key of Life

CD (2CD jewel case)
Funk / R&B (4.6)

2000 reissue includes a preface written by Stevie and full lyrics for all songs. Not sure if the dark brown-on-manilla palette is intentional or just a result of aging, but it feels very warm and nostalgic.
4Isaac Hayes
Hot Buttered Soul

CD (jewel case)
R&B (4.2)

1987 edition, I think. Pretty much no liner notes, just the track listing & credits and a tear-out mailing card to subscribe to Fantasy Records' mailing list. CD plays flawlessly despite being 30+ years old.
5The Flaming Lips

CD (4CD jewel case)
Psychedelic / Art rock (4.7)

Liner notes include an essay by Wayne Coyne on the development of the album's concept and the origin of the title, instructions for how to play the album, and short paragraphs for each song explaining their concept and arrangement. Probably one of the coolest albums I own TBH- if you've only ever heard the stereo mixdown of this album, you're missing out big-time

CD (jewel case)
Alt-rock / britpop (3.7)

Insert includes additional artwork and credits. Apparently it's a promotional copy so that's kinda neat.
Lifes Rich Pageant

CD (jewel case)
Alt-rock / Indie rock (3.9)

Insert includes additional artwork and credits.
8Sammy Brue
I Am Nice

CD (digipak)
Folk rock / Alt-country (3.7)

Insert includes full lyrics and credits. Picked this up when I saw him live Dec. 30th. Kid put on a great show, but the album isn't quite as captivating, unfortunately.
9The Mountain Goats
The Sunset Tree

Indie rock / Indie folk (4.1)

Bought this with my Christmas iTunes gift card (thanks Uncle Eric!)
10Uncle Tupelo
Still Feel Gone

Alt-rock / Alt-country (4.0)
11Miles Davis
Kind of Blue

Jazz (4.9)

About damn time I owned this in some form or another.
12Typhoon (USA-OR)

Indie folk / Indie rock (4.4)

Got this for free thanks to my job at my college's radio station. Loving it so far, and it seems like it has potential to grow on me even more.
We Have the Cracks

Indie rock / Punk (3.6)

Wrote a review of this one here: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/75866/Wendyfix-We-Have-the-Cracks/
14Spice Boys

Surf rock / garage rock

Haven't jammed this one enough to give it a definitive rating, but seems p cool so far, very fun and summery and whatnot.
