06.05.16 | Have you tried to hold down the menu button and middle button for 30 seconds until it resets itself? Works for mine every time! |

06.05.16 | Last time mine had a fit, i just reset to factory settings and resynced everything and it was fine. |
Rastapunk
06.05.16 | Mine started stopping and skipping songs while I was walking two weeks ago. Still don't know what's up...
Try pressing Menu and middle button like suggested.
The worst is that they discontinued the classic, I've been buying this version since the 30GB one, first one lasted for 6 years before the battery couldn't take it anymore. This one is 6 years old, battery is fine but yeah, skipping songs... |
LotusFlower
06.05.16 | My iPod classic up and broked on me when trying to sync a Tracy Chapman record unto it last year. The pain of there being no ultra storage MP3 players kill me. |

06.05.16 | perform a factory reset by restoring it in itunes. if that doesnt work its probably a corrupted hardisk and you'll need to replace that |
BandNewbac
06.05.16 | but yeah when my classic goes i'll be buying the biggest sd card i can and filling it up |

06.05.16 | i tried all of these and none has worked

06.05.16 | i have my ipod classic for about 2 years now and i already needed to give it back to get it repaired. well basically they just gave me a new one every time so technically i already had 3 ipod classics in two years lol. it really is a fragile device. |
Rastapunk
06.05.16 | Maybe I was lucky Flug, but I've been trail running and pretty much listening to at least five hours of music with for six years... :/

Rastapunk
06.05.16 | Hey let's talk about battery life, I usually charge my classic every week and a half... I charge my android phone everyday and I don't use it frequently... |

06.05.16 | More complex machinery in smart phones and improper charging kills the battery faster |

06.05.16 | My iPod has more damaged sectors than a clever allegory to highlight just how many sectors are broken. My only way to save it is buying a new HDD or hijacking it with a custom SD mod. |

Deathconscious
06.05.16 | "his one is 6 years old, battery is fine but yeah, skipping songs..."
If anyone is having issues with this, plug your ipod in, uncheck the songs that are skipping in itunes and then sync. Then check the songs you unchecked and sync those songs back onto the ipod. If that doesnt work, download mp3val. Its a free program that repairs audio files. One of those two things has fixed every case of skipping ive encountered. |

06.06.16 | i might actually consider the fiio x1. its under 100 bucks, and that with an sdxc houses my music library, and doesnt take nearly as much out of my guitar saving fund as the sony would |
Spec
06.06.16 | I have a 160 GB classic and you couldn't pay me to get anything else honestly. The battery life lasts for days and besides the general lagginess, it works great. |

06.06.16 | Ahh im sorry man. I've dropped mine a bunch of times and always have a little heart attack because I think i'll have to be without it !!

06.06.16 | perform a factory reset by restoring it in itunes. if that doesnt work its probably a corrupted hardisk [2]
corrupted hard disk has happened to me with two previous ipod classics and i've gotten them replaced becuz fortunately i bought extended warranty. being that people usually take their ipods everywhere, and it has a freakin little hard disk in it, hits to yr ipod like dropping the fuckin thing (which happens, of course) can eventually result in a broken disk. hence u gotta rlly be careful with the classic models with hard disks in them; some ipods just have memory cards which means the device wont fuck up so easily.
currently this third ipod classic 160 i got has lasted me 3 years and its seemin pretty okay. every time theres a little fuck up i die inside a little but usually the "hold down menu and middle button at the same time" reset does the trick, or the device is fuckin up cuz of corrupted files (not hard disk damage). |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.06.16 | I've had my 160 classic for 3/4 years now and have never had to do the 'hold down menu and middle button' trick once, it is a bit laggy though. What's the trick for getting rid of lag? I read it online somewhere once but never did it and now I can't find it again |
dimsim3478
06.12.16 | lol my classic gets laggy periodically so i do the hold down menu and middle button trick and it goes back to being fast and smooth |
Skoop
06.12.16 | Why dont you try replacing the hard drive with a flash storage hard drive and use sdxc. |
anarchistfish
06.12.16 | you can do that? |
Skoop
06.12.16 | Yeah, its what I did with mine. Here's the site to get them.
https://www.iflash.xyz/
The hardest part by far is getting the ipod open without damaging it. I had to replace the lcd but now I have a 954 gb ipod classic and its way lighter. Pretty sweet. |
Aftertheascension
06.12.16 | iPods aren't relevant. Get an SD card and put all your music on your phone. Far more convenient. |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.12.16 | Damn skoopy that sounds amazing, did it affect the performance in any negative way? Only problem is I don't think I'm pro enough to be able to pull that off, will shops do it? |
Skoop
06.12.16 | It would be much better to at least open the iPod at a shop. An Apple repair place near me had a guy who could do it, but I'm not sure everywhere would. Instillation is not too hard after that if you follow the steps.
As far as performance goes I'm pretty sure it's not any worse with the Apple software, but I'm not sure. I changed the software right after I installed the adapter and restored the ipod to Rockbox so I could play flac and not have to use itunes (because fuck itunes). It takes a little bit of getting used to but the performance is rock solid and I'm pretty sure the battery is quite a bit better now. |
trve
06.12.16 | put that fucking apple crap in the toilet and press the flush button
make the world a better place |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.12.16 | Yeah I don't have an apple shop anywhere immediately close so I'd have to trek, and even then I'd be unsure if they would help cos of the ipod being out of sale now.
But that does sound great I will definitely look into it a bit more, I'm presuming you can keep the same software? (probably a stupid question but yeh) |
Skoop
06.12.16 | Oh yeah you can keep the same software, it'll be the default when you restore the iPod. |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.12.16 | Wait the flash drives only cost £30 as well?? That's incredible |
Skoop
06.12.16 | Yeah but depending on how much space you want flash storage can be pretty pricey. |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.12.16 | Hmm suppose so, I'll def think about it but I need to find somewhere that would help carry out the operation first and foremost |
onionbubs
06.12.16 | i might try that but im super afraid that i might screw something up.
does anyone know if the fiio m3 is any good? it only goes up to 64 gb but thats all i need. theres some stuff i have that i dont need anymore, and im 20 gb under that anyways, which is enough expandable storage for me |
Sinternet
06.12.16 | just use a smartphone with micro sd there ya go you get an mp3 and a phone |
BenThatsMyJamin
06.12.16 | "does anyone know if the fiio m3 is any good?"
The layout and software cannot compare to the ipods imo but I've never used one personally, just read about them |

If you haven't thrown it away yet, the ipod classic can be upgraded by replacing the hard drive with an ssd and new battery. I've been listening to songs on my ipod again recently.
If you are interested in hardware diy, you can also make it into a bluetooth headphone enabled device with bluetooth transmitter. |
