09.22.23 | Alcibiades would be up near the top for me - so much living crammed into his 45 odd years. Wouldn't have Solomon or David anywhere near the top - mainly because there's so little evidence that they even existed. But Jesus would be my number one historical figure to meet; was he just a Jewish rabbi who became a cult figure? Did he think he was divine or merely the messiah in the mortal Jewish sense? Was he actually divine? Fascinating. |

09.22.23 | I'm most interested in Jesus' childhood and his general personality.
It was said Jesus had a great sense of humor and I think it would be amazing to see how he was outside his sermons. |

09.22.23 | Regardless of his true nature, he must have been an amazing person to inspire that much devotion. He was WAY ahead of his time on social reform, and he was clearly a great storyteller. Where has it been said he had a great sense of humour? His stories were certainly creative, but I don't remember laughing too much reading them. |

09.22.23 | you guys talking about jesus? isn't all the stuff he said from gospels couple centuries after his life. i know he was documented to exist by the roman admin but everything else attributed to him is pretty king arthury isnt it |

09.22.23 | Pretty much. But whoever he was or wasn't, he still managed to inspire enough people to follow him that the world's largest religion emerged, (although Mohammad isn't too far behind). The earliest gospel (Mark) was written around 40ish years after Jesus' death, and the last (John) around 80-90. Paul's letters are the earliest texts we have (around 25 years after Jesus died). And we have no eye-witness accounts, (unless you count Paul's vision). The stories from the gospels would have been passed along by word-of-mouth. And Matthew and Luke definitely appear to have at least partly used Mark's gospel as a source for theirs. And the 4 gospel writers are basically anonymous - the Matthew, Mark, Luke and John monikers were just names assigned by church elders in the 2nd century. |
