Top 20 Albums You Might've Missed of 2015
These are some of the best projects that you might not have heard or they went completely under your radar. Also this list is deprived from artist that had a significant enough buzz to catch our attention (Meaning they had multiple repost on soundcloud, a decent amount of streaming and plays or they made a masterpiece and it needs to be heard.). |
20 | | Cities Aviv Your Discretion Is Trust
He's back and yes he is. He's toned down the shouting vocal tone on this album and now he's pushing cloud rap as far as it can possibly go and besides the cool album titles; Aviv is constantly getting better and better with each project. What's next after this? |
19 | | Eva Cassidy Nightbird
Usually I'm not one to place posthumous releases on any type of list but because this record was just that powerful it couldn't be helped. Eva Cassidy was one of the greatest musicians of all time. Unfortunately due to her untimely passing in 1996 she never got the chance to be fully realized or appreciated as the talent she was. |
18 | | Lower Dens Escape from Evil
Yes this album was one that had staying power for the entire year, only problem is it came and went. It's extremely personal on levels that can barely be described. It's as if Jana Hunter is having a therapy session with herself as each track progresses and gets more personal than the one preceding it. This album was a roller coaster of emotions bouncing from every angle yet it was here today and gone tomorrow. Troubling because I'm such a huge Lower Dens fan. |
17 | | Khirey Akeem jackass.
When rappers tend to make noise hop it usually turns out well uh... NOISY and not in the good way. On this hand it turns out masterful. Khirey Akeem is a rapper from Atlanta, Georgia (Yes one rapper from there who doesn't make trap) and a prominent lyricist. This project proved that he has the voice to stay only problem is will he? His project was on multipe radars for a good two weeks but then it melted into the dust. How do you not capitalize on a project like this? Maybe his next one will stay and I MEAN STAY. |
16 | | Nao February 15
Now I mentioned earlier with Open Mike Eagle that his project is short and sweet, well the problem with this project is that it's too short and sweet. It leaves you wanting more and more and more and did I mention more? |
15 | | Speedy Ortiz Foil Deer
When a female rock star is singing, "I’m not bossy, I’m the boss", you might wanna take notes and play your best hand. It's aggressive and demanding to say the least. But what is it actually demanding? It's demanding for your respect as any woman would do. It makes you fearful as a man hoping you survive the pounding chorus that shouts it's way all in your head. |
14 | | Injury Reserve Live From The Dentist Office
Slept on indeed, but that's what this list was built for. To put the reader on to albums or projects that were excellent this year but didn't get the coverage they deserved. This would be a lot higher had they capitalized off the exposure they gained weeks before the release. (I mean a co-sign from Chuck Inglish has to be something right?) |
13 | | Ratboys AOID
No not Ratking... RATBOYS. But arr great artist in particular but this spot cannot go unto both so somebody had to suffer and because of the somewhat disappointing (yet still good) "700 Fill" by Ratking this spot belongs to the folk boys. |
12 | | Laura Marling Short Movie
Albums would be spectacular if they all had some sort of concept or in this case "short movie", but if every album were planned that way then nobodies projects would be unique. In this instance the album is awesome. |
11 | | Damaged Bug Cold Hot Plumbs
The strength of the single "Jet in Jungle could've carried the album alone had it been a bad one. Good for the bugs who are damaged it wasn't nowhere near close to word. |
10 | | Everything Everything Get To Heaven
Will this album "get us to heaven"? Probably not but it deserves it's rightful placement seeing as though the music is heavenly. |
9 | | Open Mike Eagle A Special Episode Of
Short but sweet. Less is more. Yeah, yeah all that good stuff. This EP is coming after his best project to date (Yeah I said it) in "Dark Comedy" and all this did was continue the streak he has with phenomenal projects. Of course it should end up on a year end list. |
8 | | Gucci Mane Dessert
What is any year-end list without a Gucci Mane project? Now with all the material Gucci does release it's hard to even tell if he's just trying to keep his relevancy high or just flood the internet constantly. Either way somehow he is always able to string together at least one sensational project throughout his release streak and this happens to be that one. |
7 | | Broken Water Wrought
With tracks like "Psycho Static" and "High-Lo" how can you sit there and not be EMOtionally inclined to this album. After listening it almost feels as if you have to listen again just to receive more emotional attachment to it. |
6 | | Bad Bad Hats Psychic Reader
Alternative Rock is still a thing? Why yes it is and this album will knock your socks off. Yes that's a figure of speech and this is a cliche description for an album that's great. So what? Go listen to the album especially if you have a ton of bad bad hats. See what I did there? |
5 | | Dune Rats Dune Rats
The self titled debut album is pretty spot on. With the word rats involved you instantly think of dirt correct? And that it is. Very dirty, in your face punk rock with no apologies intended. |
4 | | Follakzoid III
Noise, Noise, NOISE!!! If your ears are ready to be challenged by the extremely in-vigorous sound of the third studio from Follakzoid then please take a listen as soon as possible. How often is industrial noise done with profound justice? |
3 | | Rustie EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE
What is there to believe in anymore? Rustie that is. Memories of his last studio effort had haunted him but a return to form was necessary and what do we have here? Exactly that. |
2 | | Angellore La litanie des cendres
Metal sure has flown way under the radar in the last few years now hasn't it? Well even though it may not be on the mainstream platform it was once on doesn't mean the music has fallen off in the slightest. This album is proof of that. Pure metal at it's finest down the the very core of the genre. |
1 | | Joey Badass B4.DA.$$
This album has been overlooked on many levels. It's hard to sit here and ignore the fact this kid single handily reinvented boom bap and made it sound modern. This is an album that will be looked back on for years and years to come and be remembered as the light inside a period in which some believe true MC's don't exist. Even though that's not true in the slightest. |
