Dedes: One Piece and good jams

Dedes 07.31.23	Whatcha yall think of One Piece and/or Naruto??? Im only a bit into One Piece thus far but imo if you dodge the massive number of flashbacks the war arc of Naruto is dope and the Pain arc is a genuine masterpiece
FrozenFirebug 07.31.23	naruto/naruto shippuden is good if you watch the abridged version that cuts out all the bullshit filler i would rather drink 14 gallons of rat poison than watch one piece front to back instead of reading it oh my god it's so slow you can speed it up 3x and it's still slow
MoM 07.31.23	Loved Naruto and Shippuden (especially skipping all the filler. Watched all the Naruto filler before Shippuden started airing not knowing there was nothing worth watching and that was rough as fuck). Boruto is hella disappointing, even though it has some cool characters.

Koris 07.31.23	I'm almost caught up with One Piece now, and it's been one hell of a journey. Admittedly, I do prefer the manga to the anime, as the latter has some pacing and filler issues. But going through the anime is still worth it to get to the really good episodes I think my favorite arcs would be: 1. Enies Lobby 2. Marineford 3. Wano 4. Alabasta 5. Arlong Park With honorable mentions going to Impel Down, Dressrosa, and Baratie

Hendoi 07.31.23	For me I was never invested until the end of Alabasta which is something like 200 episodes in or something? After that it became my favourite series/franchise hands down. Jaya / Skypiea -> Water 7 / Enies Lobby -> Impel Down -> Marineford -> Thriller Bark

Koris 09.04.23	^ Just finished the live action last night, and it was pretty damn good. Not perfect, and I certainly don't agree with all of the changes they made, but it's a huge leap forward from the other anime live action adaptations so far

Manatea 09.04.23	I can’t pick a favorite lol Watched the first two episodes and yes they changed quite a bit but I feel like they really got the characters right and that makes it okay for me.
Scheumke 09.04.23	Chopper boy here all the way, bought a T of him while in Japan so my love for him is cemented now. I'm at ep. 6 of the live action and I think it's better than it has any right to be. The casting is excellent and the main cast manages to capture the heart and soul of the anime characters. Big chops also to the fact that they managed to get about 60 episodes down into 8 episodes without it feeling too rushed. Some of acting of the support cast is downright bad and the first episode I feel was more then a little rough, but after that it got its footing and now it just leans into the absurdity and ridiculousness of it without losing its heart. I'm just purely enjoying it at this point.

Dedes 10.16.23	It's great. IMO Nico Robin has one of the most wonderfully executed self-sacrifice sadgirl stories in anime. Really good character to balance the aloofness of the whole show imo. Also some of the scenes in the 2nd half of Enies Lobby are such a wicked middle finger to the world government. Idk if you're at the sniper king scene yet with the world flag but when you see it's probably the single best callout in the show so far.

Dedes 11.03.23	Completed Thriller Bark, halfway through some mermaid bullshit and ngl it's actually the least interesting part of One Piece so far. Feels meandering and like a lowkey pointless callback to a character I only vaguely remember. Thriller Bark owns tho tbh

Koris 11.03.23	@Dedes: oh don’t worry, that arc gets absolutely wild later on. It starts off a bit slow, but the second half has some of the best moments in the series

Koris 11.04.23	Without spoiling anything, the second half of the Sabaody arc basically sets the entire stage for the rest of pre-timeskip One Piece. So yeah, important stuff for sure
Havey 11.12.23	thriller bark was great, but sabaody reaches a whole other level of sublime chaos amazon lily rules too by the way been reading/watching OP p much non-stop, should really take a break but there's so much momentum now going into impel down...

Dedes 11.13.23	Alright y'all convinced me it's One Piece time Thus far Impel Down rules, again I think Sabaody start is the most uninteresting segments of One Piece thus far but the end scene with Kuma popping off the straw hat crew is actually fucking bonkers lol, so stoked for the latter half of Impel Down.
Dedes 11.23.23	Whitebeard enters the fray NGL the tremor tremor fruit power might be the single most intimidating thing in all f One Piece

ShapeOfJizzToCum 01.15.24	Hell yeah, the end of Impel Down and all the shit with Whitebeard is so fucking good I'm actually just a bit past that, i'm at like episode 547 watching this all through for the first time, I hear a lot of arguments for reading vs watching but honestly I don't care how slow it is, I love having something like this I can keep coming back to and I'm not in a hurry to get through it all. It's such a big sprawling colorful world and the fights are so fun to watch play out, holding a lil manga book and squinting at the lil panels trying to figure out what's happening in the more action oriented bits feels infinitely lesser. This arc has been a bit slow, the fisher tiger flashback absolutely went on for too long but I'm finally getting out of that and moving on. Water7/Ennie's lobby still best arc.
Dedes 01.15.24	Im almost thru Dressrosa but yeah those 2 are beyond the shadow of a doubt still the best but Dressrosa may very well have the actual best villain in the show thus far (Doflamingo). I like how he feels like a villain who's goals were actually fully realized and henceforth it makes his power much more deeply layered than simply a busted ass devil fruit (even if his power is deceptively broken lol).

Havey 03.13.24	enjoying these smaller in-between arcs as much if not more than the main ones - zou, amazon lily, sabaody... punk hazard is not a personal favorite though
Dedes 03.13.24	Sabaody is an extremely important arc for how short it is, literally the keystone turning point of the show and extremely influential regarding building upon the history of the One Piece world. Also I love Punk Hazard lmao, it's actually a deceptively important arc too since it's the catalyst for everything that happens in Dress Rosa as well as introducing the SMILE factories which is kinda what indirectly causes all the conflict with Big Mom and Kado. Also lol at Big Mom backstory somehow being the most impressively tragic thing in all of One Piece without even trying as hard to be.
Havey 03.14.24	no yeah punk hazard is impressive from a worldbuilding pov, seemingly laying the groundwork for 3 future big arcs (and setting up dr. vegapunk as an important figure as well...) but the conflict was less interesting than usual. i thought vergo was an especially lame secondary antagonist the rest of the donquixote pirates are cool though!

Havey 04.10.24	so whole cake was clearly Peak Piece, probably the first big arc (so not counting marineford ig) where every single chapter is a banger (with the exception maybe of one chapter at Bege's castle that's mostly just exposition) enjoying OP a lot more after more or less dropping the anime... i still plan on seeing certain key moments get animated though, esp in wano where the animation supposedly gets more ambitious

Dedes 04.16.24	I just don't really dig the very essence of Boruto from what small amount I have seen. Boruto is obscenely powerful because dad's strong??? Like at least Naruto had to at least learn how to tap into his comically vast chakra reserve, also lol at Saske telling his own son to fuck off and raising Naruto's child instead.
