11.12.24 | Ive jammed a few Blind Guardian albums and while I dig em it all does sort of pass me over
Also Moonlight Sorcery absofuckinglutely rules albeit they're definitely a stylistic hybrid of PM and Emperor-esque BM |
Lasssie
11.12.24 | Power Quest was kinda tight. At least their two first albums if i remember correctly |
Lasssie
11.12.24 | Stratovarius was also my favorite for many years along with some of the others already mentioned here |

Sevengill
11.12.24 | if you're coming from the heavier side, Gamma Ray ought to scratch the itch. their from from Land of the Free through Majestic is awesome. it's got the blast beats and screams but is also big on melody, choirs, and songwriting drama. generally they got heavier as they went. |
Rolling Girl
11.12.24 | Avantasia - Moonglow
Kamelot - Epica
Sonata Artica - Pariah's Child

11.12.24 | Pantera has an album called Power Metal, but it is not very good and I wouldn't recommend it. |
kildare
11.12.24 | "Ecliptica, land of the free and no world order." three of the best agreed. The last one was my intro and is still my favorite overall album in the genre. Also agree with Sevengill's rec on the other Gamma Rays
The new Sonata Arctica could make for an interesting review -- it appears to be an apology album. The one before it was wildly out-of-genre, and it apparently didn't gather enough of it's own fans to pay the bills (sort of like a certain media franchise we're all familiar with), so he had to go back to the basics. I'm not really into the genre enough to say how well it succeeded, tho |
Toondude10
11.12.24 | The early Rhapsody of Fire albums if you're ever in the mood for some really cheesy but fun music

- Big rec thats mostly unknown: Flaming Row - Mirage
- Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls
All of these are more on the prog side of powermetal but still really great albums that might do it for you.

11.12.24 | I could list plenty of powermetal bands that really fire me up, but I can safely say the #1 band of this type is the Japanese band Galneryus. |

11.18.24 | Astronomy rules and honestly a good reminder that they might be one of my few rescent discoveries that i'd like to do a proper discog run of. I'm getting a little power metaled out just about but I actually am enjoying the genre a bit more than I imagined I would, always was a bit nauseated by the cheese until I grew to enjoy silly heavy metal fun and neoclassical shredz more. So far i'd say Theocracy are the only one to transcend power metals limitations but as per usual Twilight Force is about as fun as those limitations get. |
Dedes
11.20.24 | I'm in love with Power metal now what the fuck happened
Dark Moor might have the best guitar leads in all of PM ngl |
