| Avenged Sevenfold Ranked
Avenged Sevenfold is one of those bands that really got me into music in middle school, and though I went through a phase where I dismissed them as derivative radio garbage, I've come back around to them recently. Shit slaps. New album is weird. | 1 | | Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
Super solid album all the way through. Deserving of its status as a metalcore classic, even if it’s not the most original or impressive thing out there, even for its time. Not every track is essential, but there are no total misses either. Shadows sounds great here, for the most part. Unholy Confessions, Remenissions, Eternal Rest and Second Heartbeat are career highlights. | 2 | | Avenged Sevenfold City of Evil
A bit of a mixed bag. Rhythm section is on point on this album, and some of the most interesting compositions are present here as well. Syn has some really cool parts. Unfortunately, Shadows sounds a bit weak, and some of these songs overstay their welcome. Sidewinder, The Wicked End and Blinded In Chains are my favorites off this. | 3 | | Avenged Sevenfold The Stage
This album surprised me, not that I had any expectations going into it. I actually didn’t even listen to it until a few weeks ago. This thing's solid, consistently great even. I'd probably rank it above City of Evil if not for the nostalgia factor. Production here isn’t excellent, and Shadows, again, sounds kind of weak here, but compositionally, this is probably A7X’s most interesting album. Syn really shines on this thing. Favorites are Sunny Disposition, Higher, and the T/T. | 4 | | Avenged Sevenfold Life Is But A Dream...
I think this album is to The Stage what the S/T is to CoE. The band is definitely experimenting with some new sounds here, which is very refreshing, and it works more often than it doesn't. I think the compositions complement Shadows' voice much better here than they do on the Stage, though it's still not what it once was. I think it could grow on me (Edit: It did, 6th - 4th after a few more spins), but I do think the last half is weaker than the first. Mattel, Cosmic and Beautiful Morning are fantastic. | 5 | | Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold
Weird album. Some absolute bangers, and some total abominations. I think this one's a bit overhated though. Shadows has never sounded better than on here and on Nightmare, and the rest of the band is super solid as well. Just some questionable choices here and there. Some experiments worked out, while others didn’t really. I can forgive most of it. This was also one of the first CDs ten-year-old me ever bought, so points for sentimentality. Afterlife, A Little Piece of Heaven and Brompton Cocktail are highlights. | 6 | | Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare
Blasphemous to have this lower than the S/T, I know. I just think it all just sounds a bit too safe, and the album certainly could have been paced better. It's more consistently good than the self-titled, but a bit more boring as well. Save Me might be the best song of this particular era for the band and Natural Born Killer rips. | 7 | | Avenged Sevenfold Diamonds in the Rough
Dancing Dead, Crossroads and Demons should have been on their respective albums. The rest is probably right where it should be: on a pretty solid B-Sides album. | 8 | | Avenged Sevenfold Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Waking The Fallen makes this album redundant, but it’s alright for what it is. Turn The Other Way is fun. | 9 | | Avenged Sevenfold Hail to the King
Garbage, mostly. Planets, Acid Rain and Requiem are okay. | |

06.01.23 | My CD came early, and I've been on an A7x kick recently, so might as well. | Klekticist
06.01.23 | hm maybe ill revisit Waking the Fallen - i never got into it as a kid | Muppelope
06.01.23 | I think nostalgia does play a big factor for me in all their pre-Nightmare albums, so I understand why people who didn't grow up with it wouldn't find it the most compelling. But do check it out if you're a fan of the genre. | Brabiz
06.01.23 | Agree with the sentiment on 7. Cut some of the bad tracks on s/t and replace them with any of those and you have a really great album | Muppelope
06.01.23 | Dancing Dead is so good. Might even be one of their top ten. | Assemblage
06.01.23 | 1 and 2 are where they would be for me. | Muppelope
06.01.23 | Right on. I can't see them ever beating them tbh, but I admit I'm biased from having listened to them so much as a kid. | Kompys2000
06.01.23 | Just listened to City of Evil and definitely liked it a lot less than I remember liking the stage when it came out. Is waking the fallen less singsongy and cheesy? | Muppelope
06.01.23 | Yeah, certainly. Well, less singsongy in any case. May be just as cheesy, but that also might depend on how you feel about early 2000s metalcore. | Kompys2000
06.01.23 | Issa mood sometimes will check when I don't have a giant list of other more time sensitive things to check thank uuu | Muppelope
06.02.23 | Hey absolutely. Curious to hear what you think if you ever get around to it. | Pikazilla
06.02.23 | hail to the king is fucking trash | Muppelope
06.02.23 | Garbage, mostly, actually. But yeah. What a blight. | Muppelope
06.02.23 | LIBAD grew on me quite a bit. Edited list to reflect where that album sits now. | TheAntichrist
06.02.23 | 5 is 1 | Muppelope
06.02.23 | I don't even hate that take. S/T is terribly underrated, these guys just have a strong catalogue. I can understand any of the top 6 being someone's 1. |
