iambandersnatch
09.03.14 | nirvana is indie? hmm |
deathschool
09.03.14 | None of these bands are indie and I hate you. |
TheBarber
09.03.14 | the indie "feel" guyz |
NorthernSkylark
09.03.14 | "not very indie for beginners" |
JSJC
09.03.14 | I like my bloody valentine,radiohead,nirvana,smiths and weezer. I don't like pixies. |
dimsim3478
09.03.14 | The National, I reckon. |
ArsMoriendi
09.03.14 | 1 and 6, and 9 aren't even indie.
Agreed on 2, 3, and 5 though. |
SharkTooth
09.03.14 | how is 1 beginner's indie? it's more of beginner's metal or beginner's punk if anything |
Kosko
09.03.14 | While this is more of a beginner's alternative at this point, I can see the argument for it from the perspective of the 90s. They all started off as an indie bands tapping into the zeitgeist of the culture around them. It's more of a history of indie, than modern indie. There's also connections to the future, the bassist of Sunny Day Realestate joined the Foo Fighters after Nirvana's dissolution.
As terrible as it is, Mumford and Sons will probably be cited as major players in the folk revival scene, regardless if the Decemberists had been pounding the glockenspiel before Mumford had even picked up a banjo. |
AmericanFlagAsh
09.03.14 | 2, 4, 7, and 10 I would say are the only "indie"
And some Radiohead |
greencorn5
09.03.14 | 1. Built to Spill
2. Modest Mouse
3. Pixies
4. Smiths
5. Death Cab
6. The Shins
7. Spoon
8. The National
9. Portugal. The Man
10. Minus the Bear
- All pretty much indie, and all pretty easy listens. |
AmericanFlagAsh
09.03.14 | Agreed with Green.
Except I've never listened to 10 and needs Pavement and Neutral Milk Hotel |
NorthernSkylark
09.03.14 | list needs antlers, arcade fire, arctic monkeys, beach house, bon iver etc. |
LepreCon
09.03.14 | Could certainly pave the way for indie listeners though few of these are definitively indie in and of themselves |
Hovse
09.03.14 | Sonic Youth is not for beginners at all they may have the indie feel but i consider them more of experimental/noise rock band, like a modern version of velvet underground tbh |
WatchItExplode
09.03.14 | 90's does not equal indie |
scottpilgrim10
09.03.14 | Weezer isn't indie, but it's nice that they are included
I would have added a garage rock band like the White Stripes or the Black Keys |
Yotimi
09.03.14 | This is Roy's world, they're indie if he says so |
Xar
09.03.14 | 4, 7, 8, 10 are indie. everything else is alt rock. |
NorthernSkylark
09.03.14 | mbv indie!? |
Xar
09.03.14 | uhhh yeah...
how is it not? shoegaze is a subgenre of indie. |
NorthernSkylark
09.03.14 | always thought shoegaze was a genre in its own right |
Xar
09.03.14 | well...yeah it is, but it obviously stems from alt and indie (particularly dream pop and noise rock).
and like when I was getting into indie rock years ago, loveless was always in the top 5 choices. |
NorthernSkylark
09.03.14 | well, i would never think to include it, but i would certainly include for example beach house, so i guess it is all indie in a way. |
Soaringmuse
09.27.14 | I can almost see everyone on that list as indie. But Radiohead????????
EDIT: ok fine Pixies are "indie" I guess. |
Royl123
09.27.14 | In my world they're indie... |
Parabellum9837
09.27.14 | 2 and 5 aren't indie rock at all |
deathschool
09.27.14 | Fuck. Why'd I post here? |
dimsim3478
09.27.14 | Hard to draw the line between indie and alternative, but I'm gonna say that 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 are usually labelled as "indie". |
