08.20.13 Most Beautiful Album Art

Most Beautiful Album Art

Beyond even the music itself, one's first impression of any given album often comes in the form of the artwork adorning the jewel case (or, increasingly, attached to the .mp3 files). While the old adage of "Don't judge a book by its cover" certainly rings true, it's hard not to formulate some opinion based on an album's cover art. Many bands will take the easy route and come up with something that represents their sound well enough, with varying degrees of artistic and design competency that varies based on their budget, sobriety, etc. For example, a drawing of a bloody autopsy underneath nigh-indecipherable scribble may not be a particularly novel idea, but it fulfills its purpose of letting you know what you're in for, sonically (hint: probably not Kid A). Some groups take it a step further though, and hold back nothing, throwing every ounce of self into artwork that, while describing the music perfectly capably, transcends the album it represents and becomes a praiseworthy accomplishment all its own. Here are four such instances...
1Avenged Sevenfold
2000 Demo
2Avenged Sevenfold
Waking the Fallen
3Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold
4Avenged Sevenfold
Hail to the King
