DarkSideOfLucca: Neurosis Ranked

ThunderNeutral21 05.02.12	for the 15th time im obsessed with these guys lately never heard 8 and 9 but for me so far its 3 5 2 1 7 (this is tied with 1 legit for me) 4 and 6 (tied, both underwhelming as hell for me)

ThunderNeutral21 05.02.12	dont do that given to the rising is their most accessible album, depending on what types of metal you already listen to but regardless i feel thats the best starting point for them. if you already like bands like isis, pelican and maybe even godspeed and you have the patience to listen to longer compositions and not get bored by slow builds id definitely say start with through silver or times of grace
evilford 05.02.12	I would put 6 higher but I agree with 1 and 2 I think Souls at Zero, Through Silver and Given are probably the best place to start. I wouldn't start with A Sun that Never Sets or Times of Grace. ToG is less accessible than it seems

evilford 05.02.12	it's hard to find a bad way to go about it. it's all good, at least 1-7. The only place I would probably tell someone to not start would be ToG. don't get me wrong it's awesome. but it's deceptively inaccessible. that's what I get from it at least.

DarkSideOfLucca 05.02.12	It should be noted that when it comes to the top 7 the order is really difficult because I feel they all try to achieve different sounds, and because it's Neurosis they always excel. Thus, the top 7 are all among my favorite albums aha
Insurrection 05.02.12	really ford? i think ToG is pretty accessible. that and souls were the only neurosis albums that i thought were amazing on the first listen. everything else took a few more listens to grow on me
evilford 05.02.12	maybe I was listening for something else. but it seemed like it had an overtly accessible style, but a lot of the real substance that I pull from it is stuff that has taken many repeated listens to pick up on. I liked it a lot at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I think that the best parts of it are buried and have to be discovered over time
ThunderNeutral21 05.02.12	times of grace was the first one i loved. end of the harvest is what really struck me more than any other neurosis track first listen
DarkSideOfLucca 05.02.12	Through Silver In Blood was the first one I listened to, but it didn't become my favorite for months after I heard it. Neurosis takes a while to get into.
