the term "metal" isn't a statement of quality, its entirely possible to have bad metal. besides, at
this point in its development deathcore has almost no hardcore influence unless you count
breakdowns, but its not like metal and breakdowns are mutually exclusive. i'm playing the devil's
advocate as there are only a few deathcore bands that i really listen to anymore, but still i think
people think of "metal" as a badge of honor when really its just a broad genre term that has no
bearing on whether or not something is actually good.
anyway, i guess i'd say i agree with 1 in that the least metal "metal" is stuff like bon jovi and
kiss that sometimes gets labeled as metal but is really just the poppiest type of hard-rock. and to
me grind can really be broken down into two categories, the kind that is more metal (stuff like
discordance axis) and stuff that is more punk/hardcore (although this kind of overlaps with crust
and powerviolence.) |
