Wizard 02.07.12	Ummmmm Aliens 3 wasn't a massive failure. I admit its weak when set against the first two films but it's still miles better than most movies that make it to a trilogy. And David Fincher is not God's gift to cinema, leave that spot open to Scorsese.

FrankRedHot 02.07.12	Wizard, Alien 3 was a massive failure, not just do to the story, the poor casting, and box office performance. The production itself was a jumbled, over-priced mess. Fincher almost gave up directing. You gotta look at more than just post-production and how much money it made. You are right about Scorsese, though.

I mean, I remember I was laughing my ass off at all the cultural references in Lady Vengeance, for example, while my non-Korean friends didn't get it at all.

FrankRedHot 02.07.12	Albums aren't ranked. Just a bunch of shit I've been spinning a lot late.y. And yes, I generally mean the style/direction of the film. Korean suspense/action films have their own atmosphere and style that very few films made outside of Korea have.

Vesper 02.07.12	Yeah, and I have the same opinion of Nolan. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy both their films, but neither of them are as mindblowingly good as I've heard a lot of people make them out to be.
Vesper 02.07.12	Depends on what you mean by "overrated". I would call Fincher and Nolan overrated in that they are both incredibly popular, even (especially?) among people who don't watch that many movies, and that's how I was using the word. If we're talking a very critical, film-connoisseur sense, then it all gets incredibly subjective as to the value of a particular director, so I don't know if you want me to throw out some relatively unknown director I like or what.
EyesWideShut 02.07.12	ive never heard anyone describe Finchers films as "Mindblowing" or "Masterpieces". he just makes good movies consistently. Social Network got him more mainstream, but its not like he was looking for that audience with Se7en and Fight Club.
Vesper 02.07.12	Have you seriously never heard people say Fight Club changed their lives? Maybe it was just when I was in high school. Or just look at the comments on the FB page for it. As for Nolan, yeah, I definitely heard a lot of people walking out of Inception saying it blew their minds, besides all the endless Internet speculation afterwards.

wabbit 02.07.12	I really don't think he is that good of a director. Fight Club was pretty cool but the ending was dumb. Social network was cool but it tried too hard and for people so plot centered I never cared about it. ya Wes Anderson is the fucking man. Woody Allen is still my favourite Like when he wasn't fucking his daughter he was the best director ever.
FrankRedHot 02.07.12	Fincher's made one masterpiece in my mind(my opinion should be obvkous), but as a whole, he's overrated. Nolan could craft a beautiful film if he wasn't so self-indulgent. He falls in love with his style too much. He's the Michael Bay of the drama/suspense genres, minus the obvious shitty direction.

americanohno 02.13.12	Seven and Zodiac at the top makes you right (although I'd have the order switched if only 'cuz as a pure procedural Zodiac is better). srry for bumping an old list but Zodiac is like one of my favorite movies and it got me into movies, is the whole reason I'm getting a CJ degree, introduced me to donovan, so it's like really important to me and I never miss an oppertunity to say how awesome it is. omgomgomgomgomg Zodiac is one boss motherfucker (the movie anyways the actual guy was an asshole i persume)
americanohno 02.13.12	Regarding Memories of Murder: I remember someone saying that when making Zodiac Fincher drew a lot from M of M, which I'm sure is true but when watching Zodiac I just didn't feel it, if only cuz Zodiac is hyper-realistic and consumed with process and the nitty, gritty details of an investigation. To me MoM does not really try for realism, which I feel is it's one weakness as a film. A movie came out last year called Texas Killing Fields directed by Michael Mann's daughter and to me it's basically a lesser MoM. It has a ton atmosphere and is well directed (although it lacks MoM's humor and unique characters which is why it's lesser) and is very loosely based on real murders and honestly both really would have been aided by a more realistic take. Anyway long story short Zodiac > Memories of Murder even though a better Fincher movie to compare it to would be Seven.
MusicinaBox 02.18.12	OMG I hated the Game so much, fuck that movie. But The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was fucking legit, I've read 2/3 of the books since I saw it, on the third one now.
