01.19.12 | it looks like he fucked up his hard drive
what it's saying is that it's looking for something to boot up with ie an operating system, but can't find access to one |

01.19.12 | "Copyright 1997-2000? Damn."
Eh, idk man. He bought it in November 2010. |
taxidermist
01.19.12 | @Kris In order to do that do I need some sort of disc? One that may have come with the computer when he first bought it? Or is it basically just fucked. |
kris.
01.19.12 | if you have a boot or install disc lying around you could try that and boot from the cd drive and see what it does |
Satellite
01.19.12 | protip: copyright date and the date it was manufactured are two very, very different things |

01.19.12 | Haha, I always used mac. It's what I know/am used to. |
kris.
01.19.12 | before you try anything, check the boot menu to see what the priority is
make sure it's trying to boot from the hard drive before any network servers or cd or usb or anything |
taxidermist
01.19.12 | (Noob incoming) How do I do that? |
kris.
01.19.12 | when you boot the computer up, when it's loading the bios, it should say like press f2 for settings and press f11 or something for boot menu |
kris.
01.19.12 | press whatever it says is the boot menu asap |
taxidermist
01.19.12 | Ok, I pressed Alt+ctrl+del (the only thing I remember from a PC) and got the list of options
F9=Diagnostics
F10=setup
F11=system recovery
F12=boot from LAN
esc=Boot menu
I pressed on the poot menu, but it just took me to the same exact screen. All of them did. The only one that took me somewhere else is F10. Don't know where to go from there, though. |
kris.
01.19.12 | yea setup takes you to the bios setup which is basic computer stuff like super basic
try downloading ubuntu on your computer, burning it to a blank disk, and booting from that
you can get it on their official site |

01.19.12 | Gracias. Any other help is appreciated. |
Recspecs
01.19.12 | If you get it up and running again, deleting System 32 should prevent these problems from happening again. |

01.19.12 | This happened to me like a couple of months ago. So I put in the repair disk and ran that. What it did was restore the computer to an earlier setup or something, did mean that I lost all my non backed up documents that had been made since that earlier saved setup thing.. But it now works so I wont complain, barely lost anything, back up most things to an external hard drive anyway. |
