11.30.11 | "I don't like this album because it isn't the one I know from them" for 4/5 |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | I like to use them as a minor reference. No more than that. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | To some extent perhaps however studies show its far more accurate than you're giving it credit for. Perhaps you are simply not the norm... revel in your individuality instead of being angsty about not being the same. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | also "I like to use them as a minor reference. No more than that." |
RooseveltsGhost
11.30.11 | If an album from an artist that I like has a low rating on Sputnik, I pay more attention to it figure out why the trolls and neckbeards are wrong, and if it has a higher rating I delight in the shared joy of the album. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | SO if something you like is rated low it's wrong and if it's rated high it's right... that is some
mucked up sense of logic you got there sir. |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | It makes sense, though. |
TheNotrap
11.30.11 | I understand your point dude.
I also see the ratings only as reference.
Some examples:
The staff here rated Priest's British Steel 2.0 - I don't agree
The staff here rated Sabbath's Volume 4 1.5 - I don't agree
and the list go on....
You have to stay true. |

11.30.11 | I kind of get it but I don't really need (or even in some cases want) people to agree with me so I may just not get your point of view. I think it's the "why the trolls and neckbeards are wrong" which may just be a general way of saying that in your mind as long as they disagree they are your enemy... the logic just escapes me I guess. I'm also balancing just how serious to take you. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | I don't think "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas..." is anywhere near a 4.4 but I just assume it's not my cup-o-tea... why listen to it anymore if I don't like it?
conversely I think Lemuria-pebble is way better than a 3.1 but I don't care if anyone agrees with me. I just listed it as my number 1 of the year for all to see. |

11.30.11 | "I don't think "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas..." is anywhere near a 4.4 but I just assume it's not my cup-o-tea..."
I'm just assuming you're insane. |

silentstar
11.30.11 | I usually look at the average rating to get an idea of whether the album is worth taking a look into. |
Acanthus
11.30.11 | I prefer albums with hardly any ratings. |
geng
11.30.11 | It can be a useful factor in deciding whether or not to listen to an album, especially if a band or artist has multiple albums and you're unsure where to start. But yeah, you shouldn't decided not to listen to something just because it has an average rating of below, say, 3.7. Although a rating of between 1 and 2 might be a pretty good indicator. |

12.01.11 | "I'm just assuming you're insane"
neckbeard troll |
InAbsentia
12.01.11 | I'm not a troll. It's just weird to hear someone say that. |
RooseveltsGhost
12.01.11 | I am very aware that my stance on how ratings affect how I listen is both juvenile and illogical, but I like to approach every album from the perspective that it WILL be a positive experience and it WILL be a great album. So I operate fro, the assumption that everything is pretty good, and you can either enjoy it or be a neckbearded troll. |
Trebor.
12.01.11 | Great Bad Religion song |

Nah, I'm just as bad as everyone else - if a little more easily swayed. Social chameleons and all that. Like, when I'm rating an album, I always tend to use the average as a reference point - so if it's 3.7 (for example) and I liked it I'll give it a 3.5, if it's a 4.1 and I liked it I'll give it a 4. I doubt I'm the only one either. |

omnipanzer
12.02.11 | Studies in group intelligence and decisions making are all the rage right now. I could post a few links but you're a smart boy, I'll let you Google that for yourself. |
