Second Chances
Ten bands that are either coming to town, or that from recommendations from others that I've decided to give a second chance to. |
| 1 | Thrice
I used to love Thrice when I was in college. "Illusion of Safety" and "The Artist in the Ambulance" were on heavy rotation for me. Then the CS Lewis inspired lyrics started to bother me and I just brushed them off. New song out isn't amazing, but they're coming to town and I've decided to give them a second chance. (that's the theme anyway). We'll see how it goes. |
| 2 | The Pains of Being Pure At Heart
Upon first listen, I didn't find this band to be very intriguing. Fuzzy riffs and whispery vocals on top of rather uninspiring lyrics to me. A lot of people seem to be really into them, so I'm giving them a second chance. So far, I like their new album more than their debut. |
| 3 | St. Vincent
Listened to one song by her, in passing, and kicked it to the curb. Plus she looks like some crazy I used to date. But I listened to one of the songs about a week ago, and she's hitting my town in October, so I'll beef up on her material and see what I think. |
| 4 | The Tallest Man on Earth
I don't know how I missed this one. Last year I listened to quite a bit of music, and for some reason, I never gave this a full listen. After a few more listens though, seems like a grave mistake on my part. Won't be swinging through here but if he does, I'll be there. |
| 5 | Girls
Won't be in my town, but I really enjoyed their 2009 debut and played it non-stop, then I sold it because it started to get repetitive. Given it another shot, especially with their new one coming up. |
| 6 | M83
For years people have suggested M83 to me, and I've always been rather slow at getting around to it. The new song came out, and I really enjoyed it, so now I'm heading back to the older stuff. Starting with Dead Cities. |
| 7 | Beirut
Felt the Flying Club Cup was boring. Listened to The Riptide a bit, and really enjoyed "Santa Fe." May need to give them some more listens. |
| 8 | Spiritualized
I remember listening to Songs in A and E a few years back and it left me pretty stale. Friend suggested Ladies and Gentleman, so I'm about to give that another shot. |
| 9 | Thursday
War All of the Time was the last album I actually listened to by these guys and I have to admit, I did enjoy it. Then they just started to irritate me. The new album has gotten stellar reviews, but I still don't really care for that guys voice. Gonna give it a spin just to see if it's less irritating. |
| 10 | Animal Collective
MPP was one of my favorite albums in 2009, but after seeing them @ Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza 2009, I was severely disappointed in them. I felt their live show was completely retarded and boring. But I listened to "Summertime Clothes" again and got a slight desire to listen to them again. |
