| Top 10 Best Shows I've Been To...
In my 28 year existence, these are the best shows I've seen. | | 1 | Radiohead
St. Louis, MO - May 14th, 2008: Drove all the way from KC, 4 hour drive, friend wanted to stop at Subway for a sandwich, got stuck in traffic and missed the first 5 songs. But to hear Fake Plastic Trees live will forever remain with me. | | 2 | The Flaming Lips
Bonner Springs, KS - 4/30/10: This was part of some mini-festival that featured Minus the Bear and the Dead Weather opening at the Sandstone Amphitheater. Truly a dazzling show, I'd never seen the Lips before but visually it was stunning. Get to see them again in three weeks, pretty stoked. | | 3 | Nine Inch Nails
Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo 2009: Never been a huge fan of NIN, but there was something chilling about this performance. I knew maybe 1/4 of the songs (as I said, not a huge fan) but as he took the stage and let out this spine tingling sigh of relief and said "I can't keep f*cking doing this," the whole crowd seemed to hush as he went right into "Hurt" to close out the show. Pretty incredible. | | 4 | Japandroids
Lawrence, KS: April 13th, 2010: Small show, I had a beer in my hand, and this band sounds like a five piece live. Wicked setlist, intense as hell. Over too quickly. | | 5 | Deerhunter
Omaha, NE - April 2nd, 2010: Great month for music for me, and without a doubt one of the memorable ones from that month. My friend walked out, couldn't stand the noise. I was in heaven as they burst through songs that would show up on "Halcyon Digest." | | 6 | Tool
Wichita, KS - July 22nd, 2002: The whole reason I started avidly listening to Tool was this show from the Lateralus tour. Incredible to say the least, the massive floating whatevers from the videos, the Lateralus man lighting up, and of course, hearing the 1-2-3 of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad, was stunning. | | 7 | The Strokes
June 12th, 2011 - Bonnaroo 2011: Not the most memorable for their short time, but memorable because it was the only show I went to at Roo where it seemed (to me) that everyone was completely into it. Amazing crowd reaction for songs like "Reptilia" and even newer ones like "Under Cover of Darkness." Great show. Great crowd. | | 8 | Fleet Foxes
Chicago, IL - Lollapalooza 2009: I had a bone spur on my foot as I trekked across Chicago that day. I limped everywhere but wouldn't let it get me down. I made it to this show, and only this show, on Friday. It rained, and the soothing sounds of "White Winter Hymnal" and "Ragged Wood" was enough to make the pain subside. Until I went back to the hotel. | | 9 | The Antlers
Chicago, IL - Lollapalooza 2010: Another depressing affair, but with good reason. The Antlers took the stage early on Sunday, and after a small storm swept Lolla earlier, their set torn down partially, banners flapping by, they launched into a somber set from "Hospice." But before they started, the guitarist walked out, and as it drizzled, he placed a small potted plant. In the midst of all the heart tugging strings of "Sylvia" and "Two" there's this plant getting life. Very atmospheric. | | 10 | Titus Andronicus
Kansas City, MO - July 1st, 2011: My most recent concert and it was incredible. A small venue, barely 60 people in the place, but TA rocked it so hard that no ear was left unblown. It was visceral, it was chaotic. It's what punk rock should be. | |
