05.30.11 | Anybody that's ever written a good review in their life, please help! |
StrangerofSorts
05.30.11 | I have never written a good review, but the advice I've been given is just to read a load of actual good ones and see what kind of things they talk about and the way they tie it in to the music, then have a go yourself. Read it through a few times to make sure the flow's all good and correct any typos and you're golden. |

05.30.11 | While writing the review, listen to the album again and again.
Also keep it to 3-4 paragraphs and remove any verbal redundancies.
Plus what StrangerofSorts said. |

05.30.11 | A lot of people don't bother reading all your review unless you hold some weight on the site. Keep it around 500 words; quality over quantity is the way to go. A bit of wordplay is always nice, and finally, don't do track by tracks |
Mordecai.
05.30.11 | just be ready for all the negs and scat porn i am going to post on your reviews under different alts |

05.30.11 | Read good reviews by staff members and other respected members.
Write something/anything.
Avoid waffling.
Don't ever be concerned regarding length.
Don't be afraid to NOT use your computer to note ideas and thoughts.
Certainly listen to the album, as many times as required.
Research always helps.
Listening to previous albums and work always helps justify your arguments within context.
Introduce thought provoking ideas and elements that tie into modern culture and the way the album may affect it.
Try to know when to STOP writing.
Read your review out aloud before submission.
Try to avoid typos, one or two are ok, but this is crucial.
Read in general.
Refrain from including life stories and other unecessary info. |

05.30.11 | Are all reviews accepted? Or do they go through some sort of screening from mods? |
cirq
05.30.11 | copy mine |
taylormemer
05.30.11 | Your first one usually gets screened. Limitless after this. Unless you submit a joke review or likewise pointless string of words. |

05.30.11 | Andcas knows the weay |
ckunke002
05.30.11 | So if my first reviews going to just get screened, should I save my first real review for 2nd? hahaha |
StrangerofSorts
05.30.11 | Shouldn't think you'd need to. As long as it's well-written it'll pass the grade. |
clercqie
05.30.11 | Yeah, if you take it seriously it will, no prob.
Mine passed yesterday, yay :) |
Deviant.
05.30.11 | Taylor's advice is gold |
ckunke002
05.30.11 | Alright.. I guess I'll have a review up in a few days possibly! I really hope it doesn't jst get screened after I put a bunch of thought and time into it... that would suck |
thumbcrusher
05.30.11 | if you've done a serious review it will get posted so you don't need to worry about that |

05.30.11 | Start with a band you love and know alot about. It'll make it alot easier to come up with general information regarding the history of the band and the sound of the album (just try not to be a glaring fanboy). Yea basically everything Taylor said. |
liledman
05.30.11 | the 'screening' of the first review is just to make sure its not spam. if they didnt let the shit ones through then 80% of the site would have never started reviewing. |

02.19.13 | Gradually develop YOUR voice by creating a consistent writing style. This will help you create a fanbase that likes they way you write and it will help identify you better as a writer. |

02.19.13 | Just realize that your first few are going to suck and post them anyway
It's OK to create something shitty as long as the next thing you create is at least slightly less shitty. Eventually you will create something good
That's my philosophy on art and creativity or whatever |
demigod!
02.19.13 | yeah man just go for it and review an album you love, those ones are always easier to gush about. |
Minus.
02.19.13 | Who cares what people think? |
ckunke002
02.19.13 | ^ I feel like I could write something atleast somewhat non-shitty if it's something I know a lot about though... like one of my favorite or one of my most hated albums. Lol. Because i'm already talking about music all the time...
But yeah realistically it will probably suck. Lol |

ckunke002
02.19.13 | are people that review albums with several reviews already frowned upon in these parts? |
demigod!
02.19.13 | it's best to review something without a review, but generally it doesn't matter that much |
ckunke002
02.19.13 | Wow Cold Vein only has 1 review.. and it's a 4?! |
