| Changing Bands, Changing Styles
This is a short list of musicians who moved from one band to another, and in the process changed the kind of music they played. Sometimes the change was small, but it could also have been drastic. | 1 | Daniel Knudson Botch -> Minus The Bear
Knudson left metal band Botch to try his hand at indie rock. Now he uses his shredding skills to create a unique sound in alt. rock, rather than just shredding. | 2 | Nate Mendel Sunny Day Real Estate -> Foo Fighters
He left the post-hardcore pioneers to join up with Dave Grohl's hugely popular mainstream rock group. | 3 | Omar Rodriguez-Lopez At the Drive-In -> The Mars Volta
Omar and frontman Cedric Bixler split up ATDI to work on something a bit more progressive and utterly epic. Now the guitarist who could barely play at all is shredding up the stage like a reborn Santana or Howe. | 4 | Mike Patton Faith No More -> Mr. Bungle
The extremely versatile performer joined the rap/rock/whatever band, then left to play in his even less-categorizable band which he had been in since high school. | 5 | Tommy Stinson The Replacements -> Guns N Roses
The teenage bassist for this groundbreaking post-punk band was left floundering after their break-up, but Axl Rose swept him up for his frequently troubled rehashing of the band name he owns. | |

06.30.06 | Dammit my descriptions never show up! I worked hard on them too.
Just keep in mind that I only named musicians who would not likely be going back to their original band under any circumstances. And guys like Dave Mustaine don't count because there isn't THAT much stylistic difference between Metallica and Megadeth. Not compared to these guys, anyway. | The Jungler
06.30.06 | What about Darryll Palumbo? Cool idea for a list. | iarescientists
06.30.06 | Really good idea for a list. | tom79

06.30.06 | You could argue that the Clash had already sort of been like that, though. | Pyramidman
