Few bands can pull out such impressive EPs as Minus The Bear. The opener "Fine + 2 Pts" is the most danceable, throbbing song they've ever made, while "Let's Play Clowns" lets loose with one of the band's most explosive choruses. The biggest highlight of the album for me is "I'm Totally Not Down With Rob's Alien." This song is MTB's most chilled, drawn-out track to date, but it uses this subdued tempo to effectively build up and climax with an amazing sonic display. The closing track "Pony Up!" contains a bassline that would be closely mimicked for "Michio's Death Drive," a song which would appear on a full-length album later. Certainly, that shows that Minus The Bear uses its EPs not only to give fans new material between albums, but also to hint at what their next move would be. |
