coleba 07.23.10	Yea sounds funny now, but I had never really been exposed musically to some of the darker corners that album visited.
Motiv3 07.23.10	Trivium - Ascendancy (got me into music/metal) Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory (because it took me through alot of my school years) Dark Tranquillity - Character and Fiction (got me into melodeath and heavier music) Between the Buried and Me - Colors (probs the biggest influence on my taste in music, inspired me to check out more music, especially this site). Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (got me into prog rock + fave album ever) Opeth - Blackwater Park (Got me into heavier Death Metal + Prog Metal) The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (got me into Indie). I'd say all those because either they impacted me emotionally or got me into a genre or type of music i never thought i would. There is more, but those are the most important for me.
Fugue 07.23.10	Chronologically the 5 most important albums in my life were/are: Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory: Gateway albums FTW Trivium - Ascendency: Without this I would never have touched metal. The Strokes - Is This It: Got this a long time after its release, but this alone made me give time to post-punk/indie/alt rock etc. etc. Opeth - Blackwater Park: As my metal taste progressed, so did the music I listened to. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F#A#(infinity): Sputnik takes over my life.

Motiv3 07.23.10	haha yeah, that album more then any other (even more than ascendancy and Hybrid Theory) took over my life. Ironically, i find it now to be one of my least favourite btbam albums, strange isnt it? :P
coleba 07.23.10	I'd choose 'Wish You Were Here' over the longer opuses as far as impact, definitely on Floyd though. 'Kid A' isn't far behind as well. I'm glad you guys are listing stuff like Linkin Park too - sometimes it isn't the grandest albums that open your eyes to new stuff.

coleba 07.23.10	Agree Hollier. Some of the "gag" stuff, like bluegrass breakdown etc. were awesome as first, but then it just seems like they're having fun at your expense with more listens.
Motiv3 07.23.10	yeah it can feel like that, some of the stuff is just too random and doesnt fit, like the bungle part in sun of nothing for example. Which is why i find TGM much better overall. Best will always be The Silent Circus though for me.

(kinda like a gateway album.. first time I listened to this I was literally blown away) Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice (or rather their whole discography; shaped my musical taste the most I think) Radiohead - OK Computer (thanks to this, I dont think that higher-pitched vocals are gay and wimpy) Slint - Spiderland (got me into post-rock, although nothing since then has matched this) Streetlight Manifesto - Everything Goes Numb (proved that there's good ska out there) The Strokes - Is This It (got me into most of the garage/indie stuff.. so simple yet so awesome)

MUNGOLOID 07.23.10	nas - illmatic (got me into hip hop and made me realize how much of an artform music could really be) metallica - kill 'em all (got me into metal and introduced me to songs that were longer than 4 minutes) sonic youth - daydream nation (proved to me that there is such a thing as beautiful noise)
couldwinarabbit 07.24.10	Radiohead- Ok Computer. I had listened to music before, I had heard 1/2 the songs off this album before. I'd even been listening to my dad's amazing music since I was born. But it was the combination of Paranoid Android and Fitter Happier which really cemented the way I look at music. I can vividly remember being 14 years old listening to Paranoid Android for the very first time. Sigur Ros- takk. While I had listened to Arcade Fire and Radiohead before this (both bands who I still like more) this was the first good non-mainstream album I got. It isn't anywhere near the band's best but if I were to pick a singularity at which I became a hipster it would be half way through Sæglópur when that fuzzy guitar starts up and you get that drumline. My Bloody Valentine- Loveless. Sometimes was the first song to make me cry. Les Rallizes Dénudés- '77 live made me the elitist bastard I am today. It also has the most dark, painful and powerful song ever made. Isis- Oceanic. I realized not 100% of metal sucks...just a large part of it.

Puzzles 07.24.10	Alice in Chains - Dirt - Changed my perspective of what classifies as amazing songwriting. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral - taught me the all-importance of texture, emotion and variety. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf - Taught me how to be different, as SFTD is unlike anything ever released in almost every way possible. Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun - Completely changed my perspective of what "heavy" is. Tool - Aenima - Blew me away lyrically, and raised my ground-level expectations on lyrical content and expression. Soundgarden - Superunknown - Completely altered my standards of song consistency and the importance of vocals in a song.
