it's been a week of monotony at uni. no good bands in this town. shitty pop-punk; 35-year-old-balding-pantera-ripoffs or acoustic bon jovi covers? the choices are endless here. makes staying inside feel a lot more acceptable. this is a selection of some good things, some bad. I try and listen to as much new shit as possible in order to keep afloat and distance myself from these people and their acceptance of the same four chords over and over and over again. and when I do eventually find a guy/girl who can tell me who Converge are (or who John Coltrane is for that matter) with conviction I'll be on my knees, with my face on the concrete. rec me stuff or don't, let's have a chat about some rad tunes (or let's not; fight me instead :) hope you are all keeping it real).
1The Dillinger Escape Plan
Irony Is A Dead Scene

after OP came out, been backtracking over my DEP collection. This EP really started to click with me again (for christ's sake, "When Good Dogs Do Bad Things"? fucking rad, especially the vocal line in the last half)
2 Red Sparowes
The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer

damn. this is jammin'
3The John Butler Trio
April Uprising

What a piece of shit. seriously. where did the guy/band who used to play "ocean" go? boring and a waste of my time. go away.
4The Aquabats
Charge!

HE HAD A MELTDOWN, HEEEEEE HAD A MELTDOWN! saw these guys live at soundwave. most fun i've had in a long time. oh and laughed hard when I realised one of the guys is behind yo gabba gabba. what a champion
5 Harvey Milk
Life...The Best Game in Town

really really interesting. has a melvins vibe to it. check it out
6The Ocean
Precambrian

forgive me. this album only just stuck. when it did, goddamn, I had a mental orgasm.
7The Weakerthans
Live At Burton Cummings Theatre

the best live album I've heard since meshuggah's alive (i know, a long fucking period of time). quality stuff
8Faith No More
King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime

its just been on repeat. no explanation needed. p.s. i'm just a man.
9 Belvedere
Fast Foward Eats the Tape

haven't taken much time on this one. sounds great, maybe after the 3rd spin i'll dig it some more. on a punk note, can't wait to hear Rebuke's new one.
10Bleeding Through
Bleeding Through

fuck, I actually dug the delcaration as a fun metalcore album (I even ignored the horrible lyrics, for example: "My heart is surrounded by glass, So cast your stones at will"), but this is shit. feels jumpy. has some good riffs, but feels unpolished and mediocre. probably wont get through the third listen.
