The Best Bands

these bands are the best bands here is why
1Animal Collective

early work is hit-and-miss (with really strong hits) but sung tongs-on is so fun that even the misses seem cool w/ me. mpp is probably the best distillation of their good songwriting, but 'what would i want? sky' from fbk is probably their best song
2The Dismemberment Plan

i got two albums, change and emergency & i, and they're both classics. they sound really original and cool and also are the best lyricists basically ever
3Radiohead

pretty consistent from album to album (even if 'hail to the thief' is a slight lull and their first album is pretty bad) and are really the prime critics band, not for no reason either. extremely brilliant
4Deerhunter

got two albums, microcastle and cryptograms. both are some of the best of their year, especially microcastle. subtly intriguing/scary/inventive/beautiful.
5Yo La Tengo

prom king and queen of indie rock and also theres the fat guy lol he plays bass. 'deeper into movies' is basically the best song ever
6Guided By Voices

despite the slightly-annoying lo-fi shtick, some of the best hooks and songs ever. way better than pavement could ever wish to be.
7The Beatles

yeah, fuck off. they rule. white album is the best, but abbey road and revolver are amazing too.
8The Avalanches

they have one album, and it's a huge front runner for my favorite of all time. essential.
9Pink Floyd

insanely good. they have like 4 classic albums or something isnt that enough for you fuckers. the stretch of albums made during '72-'79 or something is probably the best 7 years a band could wish for.
10Miles Davis

um he isnt a band but let's just pretend he is. i think he has the most classic albums ever even if my ratings dont show that. gotta relisten a lot of his shit ok. he has like 7 or even more classics. damn son
