Huge Death Metal List 09
Every death metal album from this year that I can think of, a few odd deathcore albums thrown in here and there, thanks to Zoo, Jingle and Rasputin for all the good stuff. |
1 | | Arghoslent/Martial Barrage Send Forth the Best ye Breed
For once, a split that isn't awkwardly unbalanced. Yes, Arghoslent is obviously better and more experienced but Martial Barrage have plenty of their own juicy riffs. (btw list is in alphabetical order, not by rank or anything) 4 |
2 | | Ascended Temple of Dark Offerings
A little 4 track EP, for the people that enjoyed Cruciamentum and all those other little tiny albums. 3.5 or so |
3 | | Asphyx Death... The Brutal Way
Simple and straight forward, I actualyl really enjoyed this album cuz it's so accessible and easy to enjoy for a typical death metal fan. Sick breakdowns. 3.5 |
4 | | Augury Fragmentary Evidence
Album was pretty much just typical melo-death with the addition of super awesome bass lines which I am a total sucker for. For that reason my rating is a bit inflated. Around a 3. |
5 | | Axis Powers Marching Towards Destruction
A more melodic Bolt Thrower with a little extra bass filler, etc pretty fun. 3.5 |
6 | | The Black Dahlia Murder Deflorate
This was good... about one time. 2.5 |
7 | | The Chasm Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Stupid album title, annoying riffs, not much here 2.5 |
8 | | Claws Absorbed In the Nethervoid
Bloodsucking Sorcery is a great start but the album loses appeal fast. 3 |
9 | | Cormorant Metazoa
Despite the negative attention this recieved, I really dig this softer proggy take on melo-death. 4 |
10 | | Cruciamentum Convocation of Crawling Chaos
Good... but lacking the sweet soloisms that made Stench of Decay so awesome. |
11 | | Demonical Hellsworn
Wasn't interested at first, but the crushing riff and sweet bluesy solo of the title track won me over instantly. 3.5 |
12 | | Denial Catacombs of the Grotesque
Crunch. That was your face. 3.5 |
13 | | Diocletian Doom Cult
Sweet, reverb drenched vocals but the sound is a little thin. 3 |
14 | | Disparaged The Wrath of God
DEATH METAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR 09- imo |
15 | | Dying Fetus Descend into Depravity
Dying Fetus is much better with politics then with gore, smash up job. 3.5 |
16 | | Eclipse Grind, Suffer, Dreams
Brutal-ish death metal that has retained an old school atmosphere/vocal style. 3 |
17 | | Embrace of Thorns Atonement Ritual
Too many tracks, but they're short so ok. Not too bad. 3 |
18 | | Festered Flesh Perversion
ZOMBIES! Sick album. 3.5 |
19 | | Fondlecorpse Creaturegore
I was hoping for an impish comedy-gore band and I got a cheap Cannibal Corpse rip off, lame. 2.5 |
20 | | Funebrarum The Sleep of Morbid Dreams
Drummer is amazing, sweet riffs to match. 4 |
21 | | Graveyard One With the Dead
Another 12 track album, 4-5 too many, ugh. 3 |
22 | | Hail of Bullets Warsaw Rising [Ep]
Yeah what can I say, I'm a sucker for this band. 3.5 |
23 | | Ignivomous Death Transmutation
This album is frustratingly hard for me to crack into. I wish the quality was better. N/a |
24 | | Killchain They
Neo Core-y kind of death metal. Pretty good stuff. 3 |
25 | | Krypts Open the Crypt
Get ur baby blues! 3.5 |
26 | | Lay Down Rotten Gospel of the Wretched
This album kept me happy and entertained for quite a few months. He Who Sows Hate is the bomb. 4 |
27 | | Martial Barrage Call of the Serapeum
What year is this from? It's pretty awesome and much better produced than the split. 3.5 |
28 | | Masachist Death March Fury
More neo-death metal, bordering on grindish. 3 |
29 | | Milking the Goatmachine Back From the Goats
Goat themed brutal death in the vein of Waking the Cadaver... with goat themes. No, not satanism. Just goats. Goats and crappy 4/4 breakdowns. FAIL. 1 |
30 | | Miseration The Mirroring Shadow
If you liked Masachist, I highly recommend this. |
31 | | Portal Swarth
The layers of grime and minimalist drums are so awesome. 3.5 |
32 | | Revolting Dreadful Pleasures
Best retro-style artwork ever, great metal too boot. 4 |
33 | | Ribspreader Opus Ribcage
Bunch of meaty riffs, couple sick grooves but a little too much filler. 3.5 |
34 | | Sanctification Black Reign
Band relies too heavily on speed and doesn't have enough variety, but is still solid and fun. 3 |
35 | | Skyfire Esoteric
Typical and boring melo-death. 2.5 or 3, dunno. |
36 | | Slugathor Echoes From Beneath
Sounds like it was recorded in 92. 3.5 |
37 | | Stench of Decay Where Death and Decay Reign
Awesome riffs and awesome solos to go with 'em, win. 4 |
38 | | Svarttjern Misanthropic path of Madness
not really black metal, but good. 3.5 |
39 | | Tribulation The Horror
Lots of speed but plenty of song-writing and solos. Graet. 3.5 |
40 | | Ulcerate Everything is Fire
Took FOREVER for me to like it, but when you get it, it hits you like a sledgehammer. This is pretty awesome. 4 |
41 | | Unanimated In the Light of Darkness
The Endless Beyond is all you need to hear. 3.5 |
42 | | Vengeful The Omnipresent Curse
Tons of bite, awesome guitars, pretty techy. 3.5 |
43 | | Vomitory Carnage Euphoria
Guitar tone isn't as chainsaw-y as I'd like, but brutal enough. 3 |
44 | | Vorum Grim Death Awaits (EP)
Too Simple for my taste personally. 2.5 |
45 | | Gorod Process of a New Decline
N/A |
46 | | Obscura Cosmogenesis
N/A heard this sucked |
47 | | Pestilence Resurrection Macabre
Became much less interested when I realized that Van Drunen was gone. N/A |
48 | | That's About All I got |
49 | | Well... There is one more |
50 | | Austlune Austlune
