My Favourite Gigs

My top 10 favourite gigs. This does not necessarily represent my current musical taste, given some were longer ago than others.
1Fleet Foxes - End Of The Road festival - Saturday 12th September 2009

This was the second time I have seen Fleet Foxes, and being my favourite band I was confident they would not disappoint. I was front centre for this gig (literally only the camera pit in front of me) so my view was perfect. The sound at the gig (and the whole festival was incredible) but it was the songs that made it so great. Hearing those wonderful, almost hymnal harmonies floating out into a starlit garden was so moving and beautiful. The bands connection with the crowd and witty banter meant that it felt very intimate too. Never did I imagine discussing the correct amount of time a teabag should be in a cup with Robin Pecknold! Truly stunning concert.
2Fleet Foxes, O2 Academy, Leeds, 28th June 2009

See above, but indoors, three broken strings and a shorter set list. Still better than everyone else.
3Rage Against The Machine, Reading Festival 2008

A bit of a contrast to 1 & 2. Think totally mental, cathartic, and ridiculously good fun.
4Radiohead, Victoria Park, London, 24th June 2008

Awesome band, slightly disappointing in the lack of 'hits' but made up for amply by playing The Tourist. MMMM.
5Muse, Wembley Stadium, 16th June 2007

I have really gone off Muse now to be honest, but I will never forget this truly epic event, if only for a beautiful redition of Blackout, accompanied by two dancers suspended on large hot air balloons. OTT but totally beautiful.
6Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, Tonbridge School, May 15th 2007

The gig that truly confirmed my love for folk music. They were headlining a charity event that I played at, conveniently at my school at the time. It was a passionate and moving set of songs that proved part of a massive change in my musical taste.
7The Low Anthem, End Of The Road, September 12th 2009

Despite not really falling for their second album, I was blown away by this gentle awe inspiring set. The songs displayed huge diversity and musicianship. They were the quietest performers I saw but they kept the audience with them through great songs.
8Steve Earle, EOTR, September 13th 2009

A witty, interesting and moving combination of great songs and storytelling that made me want to hit the road.
9The Tallest Man On Earth, EOTR 2009

A compelling and powerful set of songs, and a great stage presence. Really impressive. His voice is even grittier and powerful live.
10Metallica, Reading 2008

Everything was rehearsed and ed, but hearing One with pyros, mock atom bomb explosions and gallop riffs was always going to be mind blowing.
