1k Comments! Big Spuniky List

So after about 6 months here at Sputnik, I have now accumulated 1,000 comments, countless new albums, 7 reviews, and a site I look forward to coming to everyday. If I could change just one thing, it would probably be my username. I should have read Chan's new user list before I joined and prevented myself from putting numbers in my name, but oh well. I don't know if I'm recognized around the site yet, but I have come to know a bit about each of you at my time here. So listed below is a giant Sputniky list, consisting of almost all the types of lists we see daily. I should have some more reviews coming out soon, and its definitely cool to be part of such a great community *bro hugs*.
1 Recent

Some of the new stuff I've discovered or just recently got around to listening to.
2Animal Collective
Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished

So I went on a big AC spree to attempt to get into AC. I started from the beginning and worked my way all the way to Merriweather Post Pavilion. By the time I made it there, it instantly clicked. The Collective is now one of my new favorite bands, and I finally see the genius behind MPP.
3Animal Collective
Sung Tongs
4Animal Collective
5Animal Collective
Strawberry Jam

This is my second favorite AC behind MPP.
6Panda Bear
Person Pitch

Really good stuff, his solo work is just as good as the Collective stuff.
7 Gang Gang Dance

Weird ass math rock. I was expecting it to be better, but the remixes of the songs are probably better than most of the stuff on the album.
8Apres Vous
Old Songs EP

This is probably going to be my next review so I won't spill too much about it here, but it is a really great free EP from a relatively unknown artist.
9Prefuse 73
One Word Extinguisher

Getting back into trip-hop, starting with some of the classics. Great record.
10The Book of Knots
The Book of Knots

Members of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and other bands formed together to great some of the strangest advant garde music i've ever heard. A really interesting listen.
11The Book of Knots
12The Big Sleep
Sleep Forever

Awesome indie rock, probably another future review.
13The XX

New release that I checked into after I got the latest newsletter from Other Music. Its pretty damn good.
14Forget Cassettes

Another awesome indie-rock band like The XX and The Big Sleep.
Beat Romantic

This sounded great on their myspace, a math rockish duo that uses a violin. The first half of the record is amazing, but it starts getting really really boring towards the end.
16 Dig

Some stuff I've been playing a lot lately.
17Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion

Naturally, after going through all of that with the back catalog this has been getting a lot of playtime. Definitely one of my favorite records of 09 now.

I never realized how similar this is to MPP. Especially some of the songs in the middle of the record.
19 Portugal. The Man
Waiter You Vultures

The Satanic Satanist is one of my favorites of the year, but their debut is almost as good. It has some really great songs, and some really dull songs. But nevertheless, it is a great record.
Petitioning the Empty Sky

So pumped for Axe To Fall.
In Rainbows

22 Thanks

I had a pretty good musical foundation before coming to Sputnik, but Sputnik opened my eyes to many different genres I thought I would never like. Here are a few albums that I directly thank Sputnik, and the users who reviewed/listed these great records.
23And So I Watch You From Afar
And So I Watch You From Afar

I don't remember how I came across this here, I think it was on someones list, but I'm glad it was. I love post-rock, and I love energetic music, so this was love at first listen. Easily one of the best debuts of the year and maybe ever in the genre.
24Aphrodite's Child

I was looking through the charts one day and came across this. It was the number 1 rated rock album of the 1970's with only 2 votes, both a 5. Little did I know that this is a cult classic in the prog rock world, and probably the most mind blowing prog album i've ever heard.
25Brand New
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

Before I came to Sputnik I thought that Brand New was a lame "emo" band that teenage girls listen to. Man was I wrong. The Devil and God is now one of my favorite albums of all time, and probably one of the best albums I've ever heard.
26Circle Takes the Square
As The Roots Undo

A highly praised Sputnik album that I decided to check out. It didn't click until I dug deeper into the emo world, but when it did, I realized that it may be one of the greatest emo albums of all time.
27 Death From Above 1979
Heads Up!

I remember reading StoopKid's review of this and immediately getting this. Easily one of the best EP's ever by a band that I wish never broke up.
A Dead Sinking Story

I never thought I could listen to an album not in English, but Envy's magnum opus blew my mind. The raw emotion this album puts out is incredible. You don't need to know what they are saying to feel the power of the words. Another great album that opened my eyes to the world of true emo.
29Girl Talk
Feed The Animals

I highly dislike pop music, but its hard to deny the catchiness and fun of this album. Something I never would have found or looked for if it weren't for Sputnik
30Massive Attack

I was blind to the world of trip-hop/downtempo before I came to Sputnik. This was the album that single handedly got me into the genre. And thankfully it did.
31 Murder By Death
Who Will Survive And What Will Be Left of Them

A hidden gem of Sputnik that took me a while to find. I'm glad I did though, because this is one of the most original sounding concept albums I've ever heard.
32the Pax Cecilia
Blessed are the Bonds

Another one that took me a while to come across. Probably one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.
33Regina Spektor

I never thought I would be listening to female singer/songwriters, but this got me into the genre.
34Talking Heads
Remain in Light

A classic I have never heard of before coming to Sputnik.
35 Upcoming

Some shows I'm going to see soon.
36 Nine Inch Nails
Terminal 5

Tuesday August 25th, the second stop on the 10 day tour NIN is doing before they go on indefinite hiatus. So pumped I got tickets to this. Just debating how early I should arrive at the venue. People lined up for tonight's show in NYC last night, fucking crazy bastards.
37 Battles/!!!/Pivot
Terminal 5

September 4th, Part of the Warp20 anniversary event, the only Battles show in the US, and the only !!! show of the year. Prefuse 73 was supposed to perform, but dropped out and some other band is playing. I'm really just going for Battles and !!! though, should be sick.
38 Mono
Bowery Ballroom

September 28th, the first time I will be seeing one of my favorite post-rock bands. I'm expecting a full blown emotional experience that could change my life.
39 Portugal. The Man
Maxwell's Hoboken

October 16th, I got fucked seeing these guys in NYC because they played the 21+ Mercury Lounge and Brooklyn Pool, bastards. But luckily they are coming to NYC and Hoboken NJ again, this time in 18+ venues, nice!
40 Mastodon/Converge/Dethklok
Hammerstein Ballroom

November something, probably the best tour of the year, how can you go wrong with that incredible lineup. Hopefully Dethklok closes the night so I can leave after Mastodon. Converge is headlining another tour after this one which I will definitely be attending.
41 Dinosaur Jr/Sonic Youth
Terminal 5

November 21st, what a combo, 2 of the biggest acts in indie touring for a one night only in NYC and Boston. Can't wait for this.

What giant sputnik list would be complete with some of my favorite users. Now this is only a small list of people that I remember off the top of my head for one reason or another, there are a ton of other people that I know on the site, but these 10 are the first ones to come to my head.

MassiveAttack always reviews lesser known industrial and trip hop, and has opened my eyes to countless albums in those genres.

He makes good lists and is kind of a dick, but in a funny/good way.

He also lives in NYC and was at the same RX Bandits show as me, I didn't get to meet him, but maybe eventually. He too makes good lists and we share interests in a lot of the same music.

He comments on my reviews and has a converge avatar, nuff said.
47 Iluvatar

It wouldn't be a favorite Sputnikers list without Iluvatar.
48Electric City

Puts out good reviews and a fellow post-rock lover.

I forget why Handoman came to my head before anyone else, but he did, so there you go.

Another good reviewer that also makes good lists.

Funny ass dude, another member that needs to be on every favorite Sputnikers list.

Another guy that comments a lot.

Has good taste in music too.
