10 Beautiful Songs

I enjoy beautiful music.
1Thrice
The Whaler

The vocal harmonies at the end of this song always give me the chills. Incredible instrumental textures
and heartfelt lyrics that I tend to view as referring to touring with a family at home. One of my favorite
songs of all time.
2Pink Floyd
The Great Gig in the Sky

It's hard to find a more affecting vocal performance than this stellar track. My favorite off of Dark Side.
3Neutral Milk Hotel
Two Headed Boy pt. 2

A simple yet brilliant song. The vocals are filled with emotion and it's delivery from a somewhat shaky voice
only adds to that fact.
4Sigur Ros
Staralfur

When I first heard this song in The Life Aquatic, I was blown away by how well it fit the Jaguar Shark
scene. Years later, I can hear this song anywhere and still be moved.
5Steel Train
Blown Away

Here's another track that mixes wonderful vocal harmonies with melodic piano and acoustic guitar playing.
Comes with another fantastic outro section.
6Radiohead
Like Spinning Plates (Live)

This has to be the best reworking of a song I have ever heard. The transition to piano makes this song
much more moving to me, even though the original does the same thing albeit in a much different way.
7Gary Jules
Mad World

A simple reconstruction of the classic Tears for Fears song for the Donnie Darko soundtrack proved to be
immensely popular for good reason: this track is incredible.
8As Tall As Lions
Ghost of York

The arrangement of this song is spot on. The fact that the chorus can sound incredible while featuring a
multitude of time signature changes blows my mind.
9Have a Nice Life
Holy Fucking Shit: 40,000

From a slow acoustic number to a driving industrial drone, this song manages to pack a serious punch
while still featuring an emotional backbone.
10Clint Mansell
The Last Man

Really the entire Foundtain soundtrack could be featured here. Works just as well with the film as it does
without it.
