| Favorite Drummers
Even though I play guitar, I have always really admired drummers. This is probably due to the
fact that every time I sit behind a drum kit, a whole lot of 'suck' ends up coming out. So here is
a list of some of my favorite drummers (note: this is not a 'best' drummers list, just ones I like). | | 1 | Billy Cobham (ex-Mahavishnu Orchestra, solo)
The only thing more incredible then this guy's playing is his dynamics: ://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=E4xJXNdNKOk | | 2 | Jon Theodore (ex-The Mars Volta, One Day As A Lion)
His playing on De-Loused awes me every single time. | | 3 | Chris Tsagakis (Rx Bandits, The Sound of Animals Fighting)
The polyrhythmic beats that this guy lays down over the Bandits are extremely impressive. | | 4 | Aaron Harris (Isis)
Though perhaps not the most technical of all drummers, every single note in his playing is perfectly placed. | | 5 | Chris Pennie (Coheed and Cambria, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan)
Have to give a shout out to this local crud. I remember he used to practically live at the studio where my
old band practiced before joining Co&Ca. | | 6 | Erin Tate (Minus the Bear)
An extremely underrated drummer IMO. Some of the grooves he plays in MTB songs are very complex. | | 7 | Riley Beckenridge (Thrice)
Ah, I guess it was inevitable. Since Thrice happens to be my favorite band, it would be stupid for me not to
include Riley. His drumming is very in tune with the music, but stands out at the same time. | | 8 | Gil Sharrone (Stolen Babies, Dillinger Escape Plan)
Gil tore it up live with TDEP when I saw them. Very talented. | | 9 | Blake Richardson (Between the Buried and Me)
I'm not sure I have to explain this choice... | | 10 | Cliff Sarcona (As Tall As Lions)
There were a lot of other good choices for the final spot, but seeing this guy's playing last week live really
won me over. A very musical drummer who rips some captivating beats while still playing in the pocket. | |

08.05.09 | All great picks. #2 and #9 are also personal favorites of mine. I'd also have to throw on Ginger Baker, Matt Greiner of August Burns Red, and Travis Barker. | thebbqshrimp
08.05.09 | EDIT: Meant #3, not #2. Although, Jon Theodore is very good, too. | atrink
08.05.09 | TRAVIS BARKER IS OVERRATED!! but matt is a beast | R6Rider
08.05.09 | lyle cooper | R6Rider
08.05.09 | per moller jensen | thebbqshrimp
08.05.09 | Travis Barker is not overrated in the slightest. He truly is amazing. blink-182 may be overrated (although, I happen to be a fan of theirs as well, but that's probs mainly because that essentially was my middle school music), but Travis Barker is phenomenal. Watch live vids of him. He's unreal. | atrink
08.05.09 | i've seen him live before and his solo wasn't that great. he's kinda a one trick pony. | thebbqshrimp
08.05.09 | Well, I take into account the fact that he plays on such a simple set (much like Chris from Rx Bandits). He's able to get some crazy beats considering the minimal amount of drums he uses. And he can get double bass speed with one bass pedal.
Also, R6Rider, both those picks are stellar. Lol although any of the million drummers The Faceless have had could be on here. | bustyagunz
08.05.09 | i can dig this
id also throw in that guy from gospel but i guess he didnt have a whole lot of material | Bullitt
08.05.09 | Ill second Thomas Haake, and throw in Gene Hoglan. | thebbqshrimp
08.05.09 | Ooo Gene Hoglan. Nice. | VicariousIntent
08.05.09 | Great list! A lot of these are my favorites too. But 7? Really? I've always found him painfully average. | Klekticist
