ScorpionStan 06.11.09	yeah i know the feeling Freddy, but sometimes the hype is warranted. for instance: when i first came to the site, PTH's Fortress was the hottest thing going. it seemed as if the worship of that album was universal and never-ending. so of course, i was totally turned off and tried my hardest not to like it. over time, however, i've had to put first impressions aside. though i still think it's over-hyped, Fortress is obviously a great album. so if i were you, i'd give these some time to sink in. you may be surprised.

Masochist 06.11.09	I've come to find that some of these bands (and albums) are worth the hype they get here, and some of them aren't. 'El Cielo' is awesome, I've played that one a million ties. The thing about music like MewithoutYou and TMV, on the other hand, is not that they're hyped for the musical content, but that a lot of people happen to like them, and people tend to use hyperbole when they're in the majority. As for albums like 'Jane Doe', 'Relationship of Command' and 'Focus'/'Traced In Air'...well, those are hyped to hell. I enjoy all but the first one immensely, but I don't think they're the greatest things music has to offer like some people do. And I could be wrong, but I think there's a sense of sarcasm in GaslightAnthem's comment...

CreamCrazy: well that's good that you're willing to give 'em a shot at least. but what don't you get about mewithoutYou? i know they're different, but not in a bad way.

Masochist 06.11.09	Yeah, 'Catch Without Arms' is different, but awesome. As an entire album, I don't enjoy it as much as 'El Cielo', but the first three songs are some of the strongest songs in Dredg's catalogue, IMO.

Chewie 06.11.09	well what the fuck guys? You bust his balls for not branching out, then when he does you flame him when he gives us an honest assessment. I could understand the last time because he ignorantly assumed his music was the best when he hadn't heard anything better, but he's heard some better stuff and if he doesn't like it, then back the fuck off. All these bands take a while to absorb the greatness, so don't be quick to judge, listen to them more. Opeth are pretty immaculate, but seeing as how you don't metal much I suppose its understandable that you don't like, but try and listen to it more. The Mars Volta are especially hard to digest, it took me over 8 listens to realize how good TBIG is. If you haven't heard De-Loused is great but listen to Frances The Mute, it's easily their best and one the best of all time. Sigur Ros are pretty good, but again the music is hard to get into. Its more about slow atmosphere that builds within the song, opposed to quick melodies and catchy vocal stuff like you're used to. And if F# A# Infinity was the GY!BE album you're referring to, I really can't see how anyone can not at least like it. The rest I haven't heard much of.

Sigur Ros - eh, i have to be in the mood. dont think ive rated them yet. TMV - De-Loused clicked instantly. listening to frances as we speak. cant wait for Ocheledsafdsicantspellit mewithoutYou - i like em. idk how super-overhyped they are though dredg - easily the weakest band on here. but given the competition, i cut them some slack. :D

It has death metal screams I can actually tolerate (Which I never took notice of before), plus when it's all clean it reminds me of Riverside a bit. Very well constructed music, a thumbs up from me

Seems like Sputnik could use a lesson on a little idea called "diversity of opinion."
