Yazz_Flute
01.24.09 | I never considered 8 nu-metal more like funk-metal but whatever it is it's the best album here, and one of my favorite albums ever. 7 is also really good. those are the only two I actually own here but I've heard songs off of like half of these. |
Curse.
01.24.09 | Pretty great list |
Wizard
01.24.09 | Thanks for comments.
bodom, the riff structures in S.C.I.E.N.C.E. clearly have nu-metal written all over it. This is the best of the genre and I highly recommend them all. |
Curse.
01.24.09 | Cold is really underrated and downright depressing all the time, but they are great nonetheless |
Willie
01.24.09 | There are some really good albums on here and I'm not scared to say it. Also major props for 20. |
arsonist88
01.24.09 | Couldn't agree more with 2 and 8. 7 and 19 are also pretty sick records. 21, 17, 15, and 14 are by no means terrible either. |
fireaboveicebelow
01.24.09 | I am so happy someone else knows who Amen is |
AlexTM510
01.24.09 | For a genre full of garbage this is a really solid list. Madly in love with 2 and 19. Im gonan check out nothingface they seem interesting |
AliW1993
01.24.09 | Good list though I think Toxicity by SOAD should be here somewhere. |
VikkiH
01.24.09 | 2, 6, 15 and 21 are good =) |
Boognish
01.24.09 | Come on, lets stop labelling good bands like Helmet with the shitty nu metal tag. Its like the way some people insist on calling Fugazi emo. Fuck categorization
|
jrowa001
01.24.09 | you put the wrong Mudvayne album in here. should be LD50. 2,7,20 rule!! 15 and 19 have a couple good songs |
Boognish
01.24.09 | ^Nah, i'm not really into dicks, but if you get off on picturing guys doing that, then i won't judge you for it. |
Wizard
01.24.09 | Really surprised how this list turned out. Great going guys.
fireaboveicebelow,
this list is for you dude. You pretty much pushed me to finish this hahaha.
jrowa001,
I don't think you realize how haphazard L.D. 50 is. I just look for bands with a little more cohesion when they write albums and 'The End of All Things to Come' really does it for me (even though L.D. 50 still kicks mighty ass ;))
Boognish,
I here where you're coming from with the whole 'fuck categorization' thing. However, it's hard not to classify Helmet as nu-metal when they pretty much influenced most of the bands on this list (Deftones were influenced more by a band called Far which should have also been on this list as well). |
jrowa001
01.24.09 | the end of all things to come is still a good album (and their last good album tbh) but for me LD50 is better in all aspects. they pulled off chaotic song structures really well, and the bass playing on that album is skullfuckingly good. |
Boognish
01.25.09 |
I always try not to categorize any music i listen to. It's all music to me. Anyway, interesting list. My older brother used to listen to a lot of this stuff back in the day, so i'm familiar with a lot of these albums. Coal Chamber were awful! |
Wizard
01.25.09 | jrowa001,
Truth that it was their last good album. And you raise some really good points about L.D. 50. I guess I'm by myself on this one hahaha. Cheers dude, you listen to far more music then I could ever dream of. |
Wizard
01.25.09 | Hahaha fair enough Boognish. Alot of people hated Coal Chamber. They were more or less my gateway into metal. |
BallsToTheWall
01.25.09 | No OLD ill nino, newer Sevendust, or linkin Park makes me a sad panda. some good albums here though. |
Masochist
01.25.09 | Another nu-metal list missing "The Fake Sound of Progress." Oh, well...
Gonna say that #2 is crazy amazing, as is System and Spineshank and "The Sickness." |
Willie
01.25.09 | More props for knowing who Far is! Their "Tin Cans With Strings" album is awesome and "Water&Solutions" is pretty good too (although a bit whiney near the end). |
PayneTiger777
01.25.09 | Nice list dude. Good to see Cold on here. 21 is one of the only good things that Staind has done. Being the biggest Sevendust fan on sputnik, I would have put Animosity on the list instead. You probably didn't want any repeat bands though. |
Wizard
01.25.09 | Sorry Balls, Linking Park rode the coattails of this genre and never put out anything half interesting. Ill Nino would be #22 on this list :).
Masochist, if you mention Lost Prophets one more time on this list, you will be banned from any nu-metal conversation ever again. Ca-pich? jk by the way.
Willie, Water and Solutions should also be on this list. I just did this up off the top of my head.
PayneTiger777, Animosity had too many silly ballads. It did however, contain some of their best songs to date...ie. Trust!
|
gaslightanthem
01.25.09 | this is missing american head charge and i'm not gonna lie but korn's self titled >> Coal chamber |
irishmanshibby
01.25.09 | i think (hed)pe - broke was pretty good for nu metal |
bastard
01.25.09 | I am getting a Nothingface album because of you wizard.
you and your wisdom! |
Metalstyles
01.25.09 | hey Wiz, thanks for finally making this list, have been waiting for it a bit now. Some interesting stuff here that I really like (Spineshank, The Sickness, Slipknot`s first, Nothingface). Of course there is some stuff I really don`t like(never been a SOAD fan, don`t like Coal Chamber and Taproot). I`m definitely going to check out Snot, that Helmet`s album, Amen and Cold(maybe even Flaw too). But I do Think this list should have atleast one Nonpoint album, "Statement" or "Recoil", and something by P.O.D. like "Satellite" or "Southtown", but asides from that a good list.
PS: If you haven`t already then you really need to check out Nonpoint, they have some great nu-metal albums. |
Baphomet
01.25.09 | HOLY BASHED GENRE BATMAN! IT'S NU-METAL GETTING SOME LOVE IN SPUTNIK!!!
Though I would place Toxicity rather than the self-titled, list is pretty ace. |
spoon_of_grimbo
01.25.09 | Wizard, check out the first two albums by Fony (a british sorta nu-metallish band), "Routine Irregular" and "Circles."
also, if you're going to include sorta pre-nu-metal stuff that influenced the genre (i.e. you included helmet), then quicksand's "slip" should be there as well. although i personally wouldn't actually call those two bands nu-metal, they just influenced it.
"bitterness the star" by 36 crazyfists is pretty nu-metal, and pretty fucking great i reckon. also, everything by earthtone9, especially their last album (can't remember what it's called, but it has "tat twam asi" on it). |
UpperDecker
01.25.09 | Where the hell is Korn's first two cd's???????? L.D.50 and Korn's self titled are the best numetal albums. |
Wizard
01.25.09 | gaslight, Korn doesn't make the list because they are weak compared to these bands.
irishmanshibby, if I was to put a (Hed) pe album on here, it would be 'Blackout'.
bastard, Nothingface will rape your ass.
metalstyles15, I have the best Nonpoint album (Statement) and it would probably end up on this list if it was a '25 best of'. Sorry, this list was off the top of my head. Also POD's 'Southtown' is the only thing I have by the band and it's mediocre at best.
spoon_of_grimbo, thanks for the rec with Fony. I've heard the name before and now I just need to look into them. And your right, I forgot about Quicksand's 'Slip' (which is more post-hardcore influence then anything else) but it still spawned bands like the Deftones. Good call on that one dude. Also, 'Bitterness the Star' kind of pushes the boundaries of nu-metal a little too far to make it on this list. Earthtone9 rules but once again, I forgot about them hahaha.
UpperDeck, seriously listen to all the stuff on this list and then tell me Korn should even have a spot in the top 50!
|
gaslightanthem
01.25.09 | idk wiz, korn as a whole are pretty meh but their self titled imo beats most of the albums on this list |
Wizard
01.25.09 | gaslight,
Time to start going through this list (and to be shown the way!) hahaha. |
Metalstyles
01.26.09 | Wiz, you might want to still check out p.o.d.`s "Satellite". Surely you have heard the singles "Alive" and "Youth Of The nation", but there are more good songs on there, like "Set It Off", "The Messenjah", "Portrait", and "Ridiculous".
Just suggesting, that you might want to give this album a little spin:) |
xequalscore
01.28.09 | I'm just glad you didn't call Helmet Nu-Metal or I would've had to tune my guitar to drop D and get angry at my parents. Seriously thinking about getting into Sevendust though. The Acacia Strain and Bury Your Dead both have cited them as references and they are a couple of my favorite bands. |
Wizard
01.31.09 | metalstyles15,
I've given 'Satellite' numerous listens and it's nothing but radio crap. They were way more raw on 'Southtown'; not into the whole polished radio rock stuff. |
Metalstyles
02.05.09 | mm to each his own. I agree that they were much more raw on the "Southtown", but calling "Satellite" radio crap is a bit much I think. Yes they have polished their sound, but if you don`t count the singles then it`s really not that mainstream. Sure they aren`t the most original band, but their sound is good methinks, and "The Messenjah", "Alive" and "Portrait" will always be great songs to me. Also they actually have good lyrics, I anjoy them quite a lot. Some may not like`em, but the lyrics sure as hell ain`t bad. But yeah like I said, to each his own, just thought that you haven`t really listened to it. |
Wizard
02.07.09 | I appreciate the feedback. Maybe you have just inspired me to give it another go? Been like 6 years since I last listened to it hahaha. |
Metalstyles
02.08.09 | I tell you man, at least give it chance. It really isn`t bad |
Curse.
12.13.09 | you need Nonpoint. Dick. |
Masochist
12.13.09 | I would still put 'The Fake Sound of Progress' on here. But not a bad list ;-) |
Metalstyles
12.13.09 | hahahaha, maybe cuz it's really late down here, but the "Dick" at the end of that sentence nearly caused me to fall off my chair. And he's right Karl, fucking kick out Staind or Flybanger or something cuz Nonpoint just NEEDS to be on this list. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.13.09 | I'd say take out Flaw or Flybanger out of there and put nonpoint in. Staind - Dysfunctional was actually a pretty good record before they went really pussy. |
Metalstyles
12.13.09 | haha, SteelErectedb4you8er (jesus that's tedious to type out haha), great minds think alike. Also, Maoschist, you need to be shot! Jk man, but The Fake Sound Of Progress was such a wuss album. Really average.
|
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.13.09 | haha, yeah my name is ridiculous, but that is what I am. Ridiculous. |
Metalstyles
12.13.09 | gonna leave a shout in Wizard's box to inform him to check his list incase he doesn't come back till the nu metal party has ended |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.13.09 | Nu Metal Saturday!!!! You know I haven't even thought about Nu Metal is probably over 8 years as much as this. Crazy to think, it all began 15 almost 16 years ago. |
Metalstyles
12.13.09 | it really is. Nu metal will go down to history books as possibly the most misunderstood genre ever. I for one still like it, and am not ashamed of it one bit. |
Relinquished
12.13.09 | Dude Point #1 isn't nu-metal. You should know that. |
Relinquished
12.13.09 | I have to talk to him about that. I see more like alternative metal or "post-grunge" if you want to get technical with the terms. |
Jesuslaves
12.13.09 | 11 is like their worst album. S/T, Animosity, and VII are sooo much better. |
Jebull
03.18.10 | Haha, wow this is nice! I know most people hate on poor old nu-metal but its basically what I started out on! Great work! |
theilladelph
06.07.10 | really late but good looks to benzum... AHC really needs to be on here... otherwise really good list |
Dryden
06.07.10 | 7 should be number 1 |
soap91
09.03.10 | needs Fake Sound of Progress |
Itwasthatwas
12.02.10 | Never saw this list before, but nice work putting it together man. You picked out most of the good records from the genre, though some of these aren't nearly as good as the others (3 and 12 for example) |
snewso
05.23.12 | 1,5, & 16 were the only ones i didn't have, yet i had the previous nothingface album. ahhh high school. |
snewso
05.23.12 | surprised i haven't seen orgy on anybody's numetal list. |
PuddlesPuddles
05.23.12 | Never heard 5... Should change that. I've been on an alt/nu/industrial metal thing |
kingsoby1
05.23.12 | basically the soundtrack to highschool for me |
figure337
05.23.12 | 17 was the album of middle school. Good times. :) |
BassDemon333
05.23.12 | Some great albums on this list. Around the Fur, SOAD's self-titled, and Slipknots self-titled are my favorites here, and I
still spin them a lot. I always liked L.D. 50 more than End of All Things when it comes to Mudvayne though. |
YourOwnPersonalJesus
10.03.13 | YES LOVE nothingface's violence! probably one of the tightest, evolved albums/bands in the nu-metal
era... even in the small period where nu-metal didn't suck, before every other band got into the craze |
xstaytrue18x
03.14.14 | i've always thought that cold were more hard rock rather than nu-metal but great list. i would give papa roach - infest and spineshank - self-destructive pattern an honorable mention. |
Acanthus
03.14.14 | Holy fuck, great list. Lots of favorite albums here! |
Crafthead
12.11.14 | Half of these just scream "I'm too good to listen to your standard Kornkin Bizkroach crap" |
thacoconut94
01.06.15 | Iowa is bounds better than slipknot, indeed the best slipknot record |
ryu
06.26.16 | Five Pointe O - Untitled |
mauRo13
09.02.20 | and Mudvayne, Kittie? |
