The 21 Greatest Nu-metal Records

One thing that has always bothered me about people?s perception on nu-metal are the downright, idiotic comments that the sub-genre is rooted in rap-metal. Fuck that! If you are one of the those purist metal heads that has a good sense of melody still left in them, please don?t discredit this genre on the point that nu-metal is for pussies. Here is a list proving that nu-metal had its moments. If you?ve listened to every album on this list and you still don?t agree with me, well, you can always go and check yourself into a nuthouse as a deaf-retard who sat through too many Metallica concerts. Enjoy and learn from the list people. Long live nu-metal.
1Nothingface
Violence

As the top album of this nu-metal list, ?Violence? deserves even more credit then this. Personally, I would put this in my top 10 metal list of all time. Simply put, Nothingface manages to pull off an album that is filled with spiteful rage against religion and government; a message that is executed perfectly with vicious riffs, tight-as-hell rhythm sections and changeups, and an evil Matt Holt who sings so beautifully one moment while screaming as if he has some ?Skeletons? in his closet the next (get it?). Honourable mentions go out to ?An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity?, ?Skeletons?, and ?Pacifier?.
2Deftones
Around the Fur

For the sake of not arguing anymore, you are retarded to think that the Deftones were never nu-metal. While ?White Pony? showed off a more lush, experimental side to the Tones, ?Around the Fur? is a straight forward, emotionally charged effort that will kick your ass ten-times over and leave you crying for days on end.
3Mudvayne
The End of All Things to Come

Oh boy, am I ever going to get slack for this one. But let?s face it people, this album has tighter song-writing then L.D. 50 and incorporated the wanky bass lines into actual songs. The overall musicianship is also perfected on cuts like ?Trapped in the Wake of a Dream? and ?The Patient Mental? with their signature off-time rhythm and guitar riffs, and the sweet vocal melodies of Chad Gray. Plus, the best line to describe nu-metal came off the opening song on this disc as well: ?Middle finger is the flag that I wave when I?m SILENCED?.

The Deadlights

One album into their career and they broke up, dammit! This is an alt/ nu-metal album with a gothic tinge that will surely suck you in with every bitter chord and a vocalist (Duke) that makes Billy Corgan actually sound decent. Oh, and these guys defined what a nu-metal ballad is as well (and they aren?t too shabby either).

Wisconsin Death Trip

One of the hordes of electro/nu-metal bands that rose from the awful L.A. metal scene with a knack for writing simplistic, catchy tunes in the vein of Ministry.
7System of a Down
System of a Down

An intelligent and politically charged album that saw SOAD rise above the ranks as mainstream stars. The riffs are also killer on this album too, changing between downright melancholic passages to psychotic spits of rage.
8Incubus
S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

The most experimental nu-metal album to ever surface came from these mainstream sweethearts. More like jam sessions then actual songs in some areas of the album, ?A Certain Shade of Green?, ?Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)?, and ?Redefine? showed diversity in a sub-genre that was overburden with Korn/ Limp Bizkit clones.
9Ultraspank
Progress

One of the strongest song writing orientated bands out of the genre. These are songs that will stick with you for days while you hum the melodies and headbang to the crunchy guitar lines. The electronic samples are also a tasteful touch too.
10Snot
Get Some

Funky and in-your face for the most part, this rollercoaster of a funk/nu-metal album was unfortunately the last and only album by the great Lynn Strait.
11Sevendust
Home

This is a no-brainer that this is Sevendust?s peak moment in their career. ?Home? utilized down-tuned, chugging guitar licks so tightly that they could choke you blue. Lajon?s vocals are nothing short of uplifting as well.

Coal Chamber

Simplest of the most simplistic riffs couldn?t do good things for most bands. Here, Coal Chamber somehow manages to use an open Drop-D powerchord riff throughout each song and pulls it off well. ME LOCO!

Amen

Finally, a nu-metal band no one has ever given the time of day for. Sex-Pistols meets nu-metal! Awesome!

The Height of Callousness

After the laughable ?Strictly Diesel?, Spineshank decided to refine their sound into a techno-nu-metal monster that fluidly placed electro mayhem together with nu-metal and a taste for the alternative side.

The Sickness

This is where ?ARAKAKA? all began. I remember playing these guys back in high school (which was 8 years ago for me now) to some of my friends who thought they were the weirdest thing to come out of the metal reservoir. I couldn?t agree more. ?Dropping plates on your ass bitch??

Headtrip to Nowhere

Coming out of Vancouver, Canada, Flybanger only managed to put out one fantastic E.P. and this. This is nu-metal with a cowboy attitude. Yee-Haa!

Slipknot

Ya, I know, blah?blah?blah, they went on to bigger and better things. Well, to ground ourselves in realism, they went on to do the suffocating and overdone ?Iowa? and went on to put out radio crap in the veins of ?Subliminal Versus? and ?All Hope is Gone?. Plus, their image just became too much for my liking. This is the only album you need by them to really crush skulls too.

13 Ways to Bleed on Stage

Depressing and absolutely miserable are just skimming the surface of emotions on this album. Scooter Ward sounds like a heroine junkie on his last leg of life while the band creates a mood that is desperately bleak. Like Agalloch; good music for a cold rainy day.
19Taproot
Gift

Heavier then a baseball bat to the face and striving to create awkward melodies through strange guitar lines and vocal delivery, this is the Taproot you don?t know if you?ve come across any of their new albums.
20Flaw
Through the Eyes

Even though this isn?t exactly the most originally sounding nu-metal, the vocals put forth by Chris Volz is worth every ounce of seeking out. Chris Volz also has a powerful way of putting across sorrowful lyrics that sound genuine in every respect.
21Staind
Dysfunction

While they continue to write the same album over and over again, ?Dysfunction? (and ?Torment?) are worth the listen. The crunchy, hooky guitar lines and downright painful song writing make this one of the only highlights in Staind?s career.
