| 10 years on Sput + HBD to...me
Today's my bday Sput, 49 autumns. Also, around next week I think it'll be 10 years since I stumbled upon this site. It's crazy how much has happened since then. I really miss our daily interactions and even if I'm not writing anymore and just shitpost from time to time, know that I miss you all and that I hope you're all having a great life. Below is one album since I came to Earth. | | 1 | | Triana Hijos del Agobio
These guys are from Seville, where I was born, in 77. | | 2 | | Judas Priest Stained Class
With only 1 year we moved to a little island called Gran Canaria, my parents didn't have much money but they made it work. | | 3 | | The Police Outlandos d'Amour
My father was a surgeon, and did love his job, but he also played drums and loved music. The Police is one of the bands I got into thanks to him. | | 4 | | The Buggles The Age of Plastic
The 80s in Spain were absolutely wild, I don't have many memories of being 3 years old, but all i can remember is smoking, everyone smoking, all the time, everywhere. | | 5 | | Electric Light Orchestra Time
I wish I knew about this album when I was 4. | | 6 | | Toto Toto IV
I did have to suffer Africa on repeat on coastal rides with my parents and sister at night, those were good times, I remember the smell of pizza mixed with sun cream and burnt German old couples getting hammered under the sun in the south of the island. | | 7 | | Tokyo Blade Midnight Rendezvous
This came out but I wouldn't know it until years later. This tape would become my lifeline in years to come. | | 8 | | Warlock Burning The Witches
A couple of years later, my dad would come home with Whitesnake, AC/DC and Warlock. The first song of this album, Sign of Satan, would scare the shit out of me. | | 9 | | Iron Maiden Live After Death
But before that happened, I would discover this little record here hidden in my dad's vinyl collection. I put it on and looking at the pictures on the gatefold and listening to the people screming blew my fucking brains out. A metalhead was born. I was 8. | | 10 | | Europe The Final Countdown
Again, my dad would gift me my very first record, the Final Countdown in 86, after being completely flashed out by Joey Tempest's magnificent hair on Spanish TV and a keyboard that according to my dad, I would not stop humming even in my sleep. | | 11 | | Manowar Fighting The World
10 years old and I just couldn't stop devouring metal, I would exchange records with guys way older than me, buy a couple of magazines every month, Metal Hammer and Heavy Rock and just try to tune with MTV to catch glimpses of a video. | | 12 | | Riot Thundersteel
And this would go on for.... a few years. I was told my parents were splitting, my dad got a gf, my mum was left heartbroken. | | 13 | | Leatherwolf Street Ready
But eventually my dad came back for us, the family reunited and we decided to go back to Andalucia, settling in Malaga. I'd live there for 20 years. | | 14 | | King Diamond "The Eye"
With my whole world upside down, new city, new people, strange accents and entering puberty metal was the only thing I could hang to. | | 15 | | Nirvana Nevermind
And so it kept me alive but suddenly these motherfuckers come out, and everything changes. And I'm a teenager, 14, starting highschool, and I just wanna be cool and impress the girls. | | 16 | | Faith No More Angel Dust
And so I decide to join the cool gang at highschool. They had a band, I wanted to sing, they told me I sucked (I really did), but there was a spot for a drummer, so I exchanged a haircut for a cheap drum set (my dad really hated long hair). | | 17 | | Life of Agony River Runs Red
Me and my friends can't keep up with the 90s, too much good music, too many dreams, our bands lifts off, we start to play shows and we get a little following. | | 18 | | The Offspring Smash
There's a little punk rock fever going on and we all jump on it, but it wouldn't last long, my dad decides to run away again with yet another nurse. My mum is heartbroken again. | | 19 | | Paradise Lost Draconian Times
Meanwhile I finish high school and I'm supposed to decide what I wanna do with my life, I'm 18, I tell my dad I wanna play in the band, he tells me to go to Uni or I wil never be a decent person. I say whatever and start journalism. I instantly hate everyone on that classroom. | | 20 | | Type O Negative October Rust
Life is shitty, drugs start to be very present in my life, some friends lost to LSD, others to traffic accidents, i meet my first love and spend a magical year to the beat of October Rust. | | 21 | | Bjork Homogenic
My first love leaves me for one of my best friends, I'm devastated, my first heartbreak, seems such a small pain now when I think about it. Bjork records this album in my hometown, and I get to know her music for the first time, instantly fall in love with her first 3 albums. | | 22 | | Massive Attack Mezzanine
Lots of changes, I decide that journalism sucks and I turn to English, I spend 5 years just studying history, literature, semantics, linguistics to become and high school english teacher, but all I wanna do is play with the band. I fall in love again, with a red haired girl I just saw on the street one day on my way to drive school. | | 23 | | Dover Late at night
Through a mutual friend I get acquainted with this girl, I fall deep in love with her, we're happy, young and free, we would spend 10 years together. | | 24 | | A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms
Uni is good, band is good, gf is good, couldn't have wished for better 23s. | | 25 | | Tool Lateralus
Everyone around me is obsessed with Tool, as you can imagine, but I start to veer towards a lot of genres, including Celtic folk, and slowly getting back into a metal scene that now looks very different. | | 26 | | Soilwork Natural Born Chaos
I get to spend 6 months in Aalbog (Denmark) as an exchange student, first time traveling abroad, I puke twice on the plane there and spend of one of the most magical periods of my life. | | 27 | | Unkle Never, Never, Land
But eventually come back to reality, my sister has gone, my parents split again and I'm forced to get out of the house in a confrontation with my dad that could have ended very badly. This time, mum got a bf, and my dad just couldn't handle it. He turns to alcohol and eventually suffers a brain hemorrhage. | | 28 | | Luar Na Lubre Hai Un Paraiso
I manage to get a gig in a local magazine about tuning supercars and make a living while going to Uni, just surviving. | | 29 | | The Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business
I finish Uni and I start my first proper job at the airport as a sales clerk and boarding agent. I drive at 5am listening to Don't Phunk with my Heart for reasons I'll never understand. I hate my job from day one. | | 30 | | Katatonia The Great Cold Distance
Eventually I get some job upgrades and start looking for a house with my girl, my family is broken apart and my band decides to call it quits after a battle royale at the practice room. | | 31 | | Paramore Riot!
I move up with the girl, we get a huge dog, my parents decide to reunite, but my own relationship is going to hell really quick. I start seeing a co-worker and eventually things fall apart. | | 32 | | Anberlin New Surrender
We finally break up and the damage is unsurmountable. The first 2 months were liberating, and then the void will open below me and swallow me forever. Years after I would write a whole album about this and one of you would review it here. | | 33 | | Pure Reason Revolution Amor Vincit Omnia
I decide I need to get the hell out of Spain. I quit my job and find a job testing videogames in Canada, I hop on a plane and start a new life. 3 months later, the same company would open an office in Tokyo and my adventure in Japan would begin and so will my 30s. | | 34 | | Crippled Black Phoenix I, Vigilante
First year in Japan is incredible, can't really describe it. Freedom and rebirth, not much money but enoug to club every weekend and just live life to the fullest with wonderful new friends. During this period I barely listen to 5 albums a year. | | 35 | | Fair to Midland Arrows and Anchors
But all good things come to and end so i meet my future wife. Just kidding, she's amazing. She comes to live with me and I start playing in bands again. | | 36 | | Goat World Music
Eventually my contract comes to and end and my dad (yep, he's still aive) suffers an urine infection. Doctors tell me he doesn't have long, i fly to Spain and prepare to say him goodbye. He recovers after 2 months, we start to understand he's immortal. | | 37 | | Blood Ceremony The Eldritch Dark
Back in Japan I find a job on a major game publisher, which still feeds me today and I get to put my name on legendary IPs, really a dream come true. | | 38 | | Motoi Sakuraba Dark Souls II Soundtrack
I get to play to my favorite game of all time (could be Skyrim but... yeah) still up to this day. Life is amazing. | | 39 | | Chelsea Wolfe Abyss
At this time I've spent 2 years really invested in writing music, playing acoustic guitar and singing, after all my life thinking I wasn't good enough to do it. I start playing shows, get more musicians and I eventually record my first record at home, by myself, with basically one mi, I call it "June". | | 40 | | Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas Mariner
Can't really remember how I get to this album but it just blows my mind, and looking at reviews, i find this site called Sputnikmusic.com. I laugh my ass off reading a certain Lordepots roasting everybody. I decide to make an account. | | 41 | | Ulver The Assassination of Julius Caesar
I'm devouring music like never in my life, listening to an insane amount of albums every day, these are good times in Sput, I'm also writing reviews and slowly getting (I think) better at it. My GF moves in with me (she was still in Tokyo), we're in another city now. | | 42 | | Ghost (SWE) Prequelle
We cook everyday to this album, we start making plans, work is good, reviews are good, I eat too many tacos and drink too much stout. | | 43 | | Two People First Body
I'm watching the original Blade Runner back in the big screens by mysef, my favorite movie of all time, but once I go out i notice 20 calls from my sister back in Spain. My mum has died. | | 44 | | Bohren und der Club of Gore Patchouli Blue
I had make an attempt of making a shoegaze band called Sol Distorsion and I even record a 4 track demo, but eventually i decide to give u and go back to drums, I join a crazy noise punk Japanese band called o'summer vacation. | | 45 | | King Woman Celestial Blues
We're on pandemic grounds here, so I watch the world change. Strange times. | | 46 | | darkher The Buried Storm
We slowly go back to normal but the war in Ukraine really gets in my head and I torture myself with way too much information. | | 47 | | Blood Star First Sighting
I go back to my roots and start to get into classic metal trevival bands again thanks to bands like Blood Star, Tower, etc. I get a promotion, and my Sput golden years come to and end. I quit writing and decide to try to focus on being a proper dad and husband. | | 48 | | Kelly Lee Owens Dreamstate
Wor, work, work, work, I'm incredibly stressed during the whole year. | | 49 | | Messa The Spin
My dad suffers a multiorganic failure. Turned out he wasn't immortal. I miss him greatly but it was time for him to go. | | 50 | | Neurosis An Undying Love for a Burning World
And life goes on. | |

10.08.26 | Fuck I'm old. | Demon of the Fall
10.08.26 | Congrats on being 'old' and having lived a rather interesting life if I may say so. I admire your inclination to make changes when things aren't going as you'd want. A lot of bold moves (often 'moves' in the literal sense) here.
It seems we started here around a similar time. I think my official date is Feb '17 but I lurked for a good while and remember witnessing what you are referencing, lol.
P.S. Nice to still see you around. | zakalwe
