JoyfulPlatypus 08.18.26	Big agree on Counterparts, it sounds like they've been making the same exact song/album for years now. Same could obviously be said for AC/DC. Arctic Monkeys I used to LOATHE back in HS because that's when A.M. was massive, but I've grown to respect their early stuff more. You'll never catch me calling Zeppelin overrated though lol.

Compared to their early classics, I've yet to hear anything modern from them that's even remotely comparable in quality. Not to mention Corgan himself seems like a huge tool.

Iconoclastic..Subjective... at the very least, at it's most basic, it's this vague notion that an artist's wider success and reputation are (in the individual's own, subjective opinion) over-inflated or not entirely justified. This will be a topic discussion in some form, repeatedly, until Sputnikmusic.com has its final (imminent-feeling) outage.

Christbait 08.19.26	I do think appeal and popularity should be considered. People bringing up bands like Cult of Luna, Counterparts, or Godflesh are sort of overshooting. "Overrated" is relative to what the criteria are. Given that this is an insular sort of site, our responses are mainly going to be way too subjective since we're essentially calling out a bunch of bands that generally have a swell of popularity within very niche communities. Sleep Token is a good example of a band that is massively popular because fans overrate the quality of their music. But, like, Ulcerate? How are they overrated when even mainstream metal fans would never recognize that name?

Again, I believe it goes with an individual's subjective opinion that the wider praise put on any given band (whether relatively niche, or not), far exceeds one's own accessment of their appeal and merits. "Underground big" (like Cult of Luna, as prior mentioned), still counts as "big", due to them being a lauded, leading band in their respective genre.
