| Four years of Kraken the cat
The only family I have. | | 1 | | Khrystyna Soloviy Любий друг
Back in the summer of 2022, a family couple picked up a kitten from the street in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. The little guy was unconscious and one of his paws was badly damaged (it was later partially amputated). The couple took good care of the kitty and nursed him back to health, but their landlord was adamant: they can't keep the cat on his property, and they have to get rid of him in 2-3 days. So, they published a plea for help on Facebook, which I saw and decided to intervene. | | 2 | | Indochine Babel Babel
I live in a rental apartment as well, but the landlady I had at the time was a kind and understanding woman, and we had an arrangement that eventually I might adopt a pet. That is how Kraken came to live with me, in August 2022. It was supposed to be a temporary stay before a permanent family could be found (I was jobless at the time and struggled to provide even for myself). But of course I got attached to the kitty and in a couple of weeks I couldn't imagine ever letting him go. In a couple of months I also found a good job, so it was decided. | | 3 | | Eths III
Last week marked four years since Kraken lives with me (the actual anniversary was on August 14, but the site was down at the time). I love him like a child. His belly, paws, and face are white, his back, head, and sides are ginger, his tail is striped. His eyes have the color of amber, his nose is pink. | | 4 | | Negramaro Free Love
This is basically me making a case for adopting a pet from a shelter or from the street instead of buying one. Kraken is not high-bred, but he is cute and amusing, tender and grateful. He brings me joy and keeps me going (although barely these last months, but without him I'd surely fell into despair completely). His fur is extremely soft, and his eyes are full of wisdom. | | 5 | | Pallas (UK) XXV
However, I must also warn you to proceed with caution and give the matter some serious consideration before adopting a cat or a dog. Pets are not toys, nor are they just fashion accessoires to be discarded when you get bored with them. Most importantly, their life-span is much shorter than ours. A pet is a child that you'll eventually have to bury. If you are not ready to handle this huge emotional burden one day, don't commit. The emotional attachment that I have to Kraken is way stronger than I could imagine. May he live a long and happy life!
The list is albums I wish had a review, but can't review myself for various reasons. | |

I saved my cat from a bad situation when she was real young. She hates everyone but she’s a cool little curmudgeon | Hyperion1001
08.18.26 | i just fed my 3 girls as I read this. cats are the best animals on earth and I couldn’t live without them. glad you saved mr kraken and please post a pic so we can see the little fella. | LouBreed
08.18.26 | @combustion - my guy became quite aggressive some time ago, but it passed, so maybe your girl will come around to it. Cats are unpredictable though, mine's personality underwent some quite surprising developments in both good and bad way
@Hyperion - If I had my own place, I'd surely have more than one pet (at least a cat and a dog). Here's a recent video of Kraken: https://youtube.com/shorts/8mqf9pBW47I?si=0XstZhsiKNM5H5hG | Hyperion1001
08.18.26 | what a handsome boy 😇 | arthropod
08.18.26 | Lovely. He looks a little like one of mine, except Rudy has more ginger fur (the name checks out) and different body proportions. We picked him up after the previous owner kicked him out - chances are that he was abused - and now we have a slightly irritable 8 kilograms of joy in the house. | LouBreed
08.18.26 | Yep, I could have guessed his color by his name. It is a big act of kindness to adopt a cat thrown out into the street. Home-based cats can't survive in the street on their own. Mine has different proportions sure, he's only 4 kilos, although he plumps up for the winter normally and gains an extra kilo or so. | AlkemestRedux

Sending good thoughts your way and to Kraken. And glad your landlord was chill, sometimes they can be real bastards but it sounds like you have a nice one.
We adopted our cat from an anime shop our son worked at for a while. The shop owner kept the cat locked in a bathroom for 16 hours while the store was closed. Mr. Catto is much happier now. Although he did balloon up because we realized he was sneaking into the kitchen at night and licking the butter sticks lol |
