06.18.26 | Went and saw Killswitch live a couple weeks ago. Been on a hard, hard early 2000s metalcore kick since. I re-listened through that Atreyu album too, there we so many great bands for like a short period of time. Then nearly all of them just started to be meh. But 2000-2006ish was a crazy good era. Didn't realize how good I had it growing up then. |
botb
06.18.26 | Ah I can tell you too had a Christcore adjacent young adulthood |
BookoftheFallen
06.18.26 | 2000s metalcore was so good. Even alot of the christian bands were awesome. annoying Octanecore didnt exist yet. Some bands like atreyu went buttrock but even that was fun. |
AlkemestRedux
06.18.26 | Agreed, it still bums me out that Lambesis destroyed his brain and his band. AILD had such a golden string of records for a while there. I blew out the speakers in my mom's LeSabre listening to An Ocean Between Us lmao |
botb
06.18.26 | That was a big band for me in 9th grade. Heard frail words collapse, they’re only chasing safety, as the palaces burn, and hidden hands of sadist nation in like the same 2 week period. Sent me on a trajectory to find anything remotely heavier than classic metal for years. |
jrlikestodance
06.18.26 | Shadows Are Security was my first metalcore album, got it for Christmas in like 7th or 8th grade. Still think it holds up as their best. Tim still needs his ass publicly whooped |
Emim
06.18.26 | Through Struggle was my first mxc song, or Infected by Demon Hunter if you count that |
Confessed2005
06.18.26 | Some very fine albums here. |
JayEnder
06.18.26 | I FRIGGIN LOVE METALCORE!
Through Struggle was my first experience with the genre too and it changed my brain chemistry forever |

06.18.26 | Thanks for reminding me I need to listen to Nocturne. I never liked Digital Veil many years ago hearing it (10+ years), so I need to revisit that band in general. |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Also, gonna get a lot of hate for this but The Poison is still may be the best mainstream style metalcore record ever. Almost every song has a great hook and is memorable. Band shit the bed real fast after the Poison and never recovered, but for one record they were awesome. |
NudeTayne
06.18.26 | The Last Kind Words by Devildriver is way up there for me in the metalcore category |
botb
06.18.26 | Digital veil fucking sucks other than like 2 songs but nocturne rules |
jrlikestodance
06.18.26 | The End of Heartache stomps The Poison imho |
NudeTayne
06.18.26 | fuck that is such a rabbit hole of thought |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | They're a little more on the metallic hardcore type of metalcore but dang Hatebreed had some killer songs on their first 3 records. I LIVE FOR THISSSSS.....LIVE, LIVE! |
jrlikestodance
06.18.26 | I think Supremacy is right up there w the first three Hatebreed records. Jammed some of it yesterday and it still holds up. Defeatist is a beast ass opener |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | "The End of Heartache stomps The Poison imho"
Both are among my favorite records of all time, and easy 5's - so I have no problem arguing Heartache wins. Both classics. |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Damn I forgot about Defeatist. 2nd half of that song when the groove hits is 5/5 agreed. |
jrlikestodance
06.18.26 | They played it live when I saw em a lil while ago and it really brought me back. I've been toying around with the idea of writing a review for Satisfaction since I've now 5d it |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | If it needs a review, do it. Hatebreed are underappreciated in the grand scheme - probably due to their corny band name. They put out some killer music. They were somewhat ahead of their time with the real aggressive, self-empowerment message that bands like Killswitch later ran with. |
Confessed2005
06.18.26 | I used to detest Bullet For MY Valentine but I have to say, The Poison is very good. Aged like fine wine. |
Emim
06.18.26 | I'd put As Daylight Dies over TEOH if we're talking hooks. The Poison is definitely up there too |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Both are 5’s, both have tons of hooks agreed. |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Just realized A7X’s Waking the Fallen isn’t on here. Another amazing early metalcore album and then they were meh for everything after. |
Confessed2005
06.18.26 | Yep, that album was amazing - still holds up well today too. |
sr388
06.18.26 | chimaira < 3 |
sr388
06.18.26 | also
metalcore |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Chimaira will always be the unsung kings of metalcore to me. One of my favorite bands ever. impossibility of Reason, Chimaira, and Resurrection was a great great 3 album run. |
Confessed2005
06.18.26 | Chimaira rule - another hard agreement. |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Heck yeah. I always debate flying out to Cleveland every year for their Christmas reunion show. Haven’t yet, but seriously debating. |
sr388
06.18.26 | seeing them play with killswitch and lacuna coil (and disturbed lol) altered my childhood brain chemistry |
KjSwantko
06.18.26 | Disturbed lol. Actually The Sickness was a pretty respectable mainstream effort. Then they turned into a straight up embarrassment after. |
NudeTayne
06.19.26 | "seeing them play with killswitch and lacuna coil (and disturbed lol) altered my childhood brain chemistry"
I saw that tour in Detroit at the Joe Louis Arena I think, it's when Chimaira was touring The Infection, I had backstage passes for KsE for me and a friend and when we saw the show we decided to leave when Disturbed came on and dodged traffic lol |
KjSwantko
06.19.26 | dang lol. What a shame Joe Louis is gone now too. I grew up in Glens Falls, NY, home of the now defunct Adirondack Red Wings (AHL affiliate to Detroit). For that reason, always have had a soft spot for Detroit. Little Ceasar Arena now sounds retarded. That's cool you got to experience a legendary venue like that. |
KjSwantko
06.19.26 | Also, The Infection wasn't a bad record. If it had the mix and production of Impossibility of Reason, it would've been much better received. The flat, balls-less sound killed it imo. |
NudeTayne
06.19.26 | actually loved The Infection, imo the last good album they made. Huge fan of Andols Herrick, an incredible drummer that made that album such a vibe |
BookoftheFallen
06.19.26 | The disturbed, killswitch engage, chimaera tour (music as a weapon) was the first concert I ever went to when I was in high school! Disturbed were my favorite band back then. |
KjSwantko
06.19.26 | It's ok, I thought they were sick when I was like 11 years old when The Sickness came out too. Fortunately, we all advance and move on. |
sr388
06.19.26 | music as a weapon enjoyers unite m/ |
sr388
06.19.26 | also indestructible by disturbed still has some bangers |
