| | ISIS Marathon! (First listen) | | 1 | | ISIS Celestial
My first time listening to this band, and I can certainly say the compositions are energetic and well produced. But I wasnāt particularly gripped by it. Outside of Celestial and Gentle Time, nothing really gripped me. Certainly doesnāt help that I found the vocals to be a bit boring.

Yāall I may have teared up.
Thereās so much to unpack here that the metaphorical package hasnāt even shipped yet; let alone arrived at my doorstep. But from an uninitiated perspective, this album is unbelievable. This is a whole new level of patient, layered songwriting. It felt like listening to The Seer by Swans for the first time, only itās not 2 fucking hours long, so I immediately give it props for that. The way motifs develop slowly, push and pull, and ping-pong through one another is astonishing. I previously mentioned that I felt the vocals were boring, and while nothing has changed in terms of vocal style, the way theyāre used is strategic and sparingly, only at the exact perfect moments, and it leads to numerous cathartic climaxes that felt like I was floating out of my body. | | 3 | | ISIS Oceanic

Speaking of transcending, once the solo on āCarryā hit, I instantly accepted that I was fucking blown away by this. This is one of those albums, where I think āif I was high, this would probably send me into a coma from the experiential shockā. Before listening, I planned to give it a few days before awarding a rating, as I expected something dense that I may not enjoy at first. This will not be needed for the 5/5 this deserves. Iām going to be jamming this for the rest of my life, what a blessing.
Favorite track: fucking all of them. Though I will say, my favorite bits were the bits with a focus on clean guitar. Shit was so beautiful. | |

06.02.26 | Iām sorry | DarkSideOfLucca
06.02.26 | It took me like a full year of listening to this band to really get into them tbh
It didn't click for me personally until I got to Wavering Radiant, then I worked my way backwards and really understood | Hawks
06.02.26 | Amazing band yes. | Christbait
06.02.26 | They get better as you go. Don't worry if your personal ratings don't reflect the majority. I think your appreciation for them depends on which album you start with, honestly. So keep an open mind as you continue since they do change up quite a bit by the time In the Absence of Truth rolls around. | bananatossing
06.02.26 | You shouldāve listened to Mosquito Control and Red Sea before jumping into Celestial. Also give SGNL>05 a listen if you will. | gabba
06.02.26 | Their first 3 albums are flawless, the best 3-album run in the ISIS/CoL/Neurosis discog imo. There's not a weak moment on Celestial, and it goes much harder than the rest, it is quite different. | DarkSideOfLucca
06.02.26 | I mean I like Neurosis way more but yeah all 3 bands are fucking incredible, some of the best bands ever | budgie
06.02.26 | jam pelican instead | bighubbabuddha
06.02.26 | Wavering Radiant is their best, closely followed by Panopticon. Celestial is a grower. | jrlikestodance
06.02.26 | Oceanic and Wavering are my top dogs | gabba
06.02.26 | Interesting, I like Wavering the least. It's good, but not the level of their earliest ones. But maybe it'll grow on me later. | Brabiz
06.02.26 | Listened to the first track off Oceanic while on my break at work. Much more interested in hearing this one. Was worried this list would be a Sput nuke with how Celestial went. Donāt want Hawks showing up at my house or some shit. | Hawks
06.02.26 | Hahahahahahaha | Brabiz
06.02.26 | My mileage with post-rock / metal varies. So we shall see. Iāve tried numerous times to get into Neurosis and it just never happens. Kind of frustrating actually | DarkSideOfLucca
06.02.26 | I mean yeah all of these post bands didnāt click immediately with me, but now all 3 of them are like in my top 20 bands of all time (neurosis being #2) | bighubbabuddha
06.02.26 | Neurosis latest album is easily AOTY, check it if you haven't bro | Hawks
06.02.26 | Neurosis is my second fav band of all-time. | bighubbabuddha
06.02.26 | Neurosis are in my top 50 hahaha. Man music rules | Demon of the Fall
06.02.26 | It took me 15 years to fully appreciate Panopticon. If you like variety and find the vox boring, then Oceanic may be a better bet.
simplistic breakdown...
Big 3 post-metal = top 10 bands of all time, the only metal bands placing this high these days
non top 3 post-metal = gonna struggle cracking top 100... unless I give Fall of Efrafa a pass despite only releasing one post-metal album lol | unclereich
06.02.26 | Israeli Secret Intelligence Service m/ | Brabiz
06.02.26 | No way, this band put cameras in my house!! | IsisScript80
06.02.26 | They're frickin' incredible.
I've listened to them in real-time since around 2003... setting up a listening marathon in order to "get" them, seems needlessly fraught and pressurised. | Brabiz
06.02.26 | Alright, Oceanic is added. Had to cut down my thoughts because I just kept writing lmao | Hawks
06.02.26 | LETS GOOOOO!!!! | Brabiz
06.02.26 | āThis is one of the best songs Iāve ever heardā - me every 2 minutes | Brabiz
06.02.26 | Onto round 2 immediately. The production alone, goddddd. The drums sound like someone punching the inside of my head | Hawks
06.02.26 | Can't wait for you to hear Panopticon and Wavering Radiant! |
