Iron Maiden Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Ranked
The last album in the classic first 7 album stretch of the band, definitely isn't a slouch with some all timers in the track list. The layered progressive style is so damned good and I do admit them pivoting from it is a disappointment. Either way on with the ranking! |
| 8 | Iron Maiden The Prophecy
The only track from the last 3 albums I don't care much for, and for longest time I always would forget how this track goes which is a tell for how memorable it is for me; I do know a shit ton of the fanbase love to wank the shit outta this one though. The Layered vocals in chorus is kind of a misstep for me and the instrumental/solo sections are kinda going through the motions for me as far as Maiden is concerned. What is especially noteworthy though is the Dave composed ending which is absolutely fantastic and a great way to lead towards the latter half of album. |
| 7 | Only The Good Die Young
A great track, but I do feel underachieves a bit when compared to rest of album. Solo sections don't particularly stand out to me beyond having to exist because rock/metal demands with the caveat of it being cool to hear a Steve Harris "bass solo". |
| 6 | Can I Play With Madness
Probably the usual suspect for least fav track here but I often can fuck with the Maiden staple "simple rockers". I have fun with the change up in the middle and the chorus is fun with the synth lead line in chorus. Everything above this though is hallowed ground in terms of performance and composition though. |
| 5 | The Clairvoyant
I fucking love the way this track morphs throughout. The bass sets tone early and the guitar melodies and harmonies in chorus build up in spectacular fashion. Dave's extended solo is one of my favs of his with some great delay use in end of it. |
| 4 | Moonchild
3rd album in a row with all timer of an opening. The acoustic intro with the synth line build up sets the albums tone perfectly and the ferociousness of the riffage makes sure everyone knows the band is still king at this point. The bridge and solo sections are especially effective with Bruce's lyrics adding the perfect amount of mysticism to keep you on notice. |
| 3 | The Evil That Men Do
This song lives off the harmonies and deviations in the guitar lead lines, evident from even the first measure. I love how they almost desync at end of choruses to build the perfect amount of tension. Lyrically track is fantastic with a very charismatic Bruce performance to sell it. This track is perfect example of what Adrian brings to band compositionally and love that he can simultaneously rock out whilst escaping the trappings of rockers who just like jamming and improvising. |
| 2 | Infinite Dreams
Fav Bruce performance on record full stop. This track does so well to showcase the man and the track just builds up so spectacularly the whole way through. All the key and tempo changes to the solos and outro just make it feel like a perfectly complete journey despite only being second track. This album excels at that dynamic rise and fall, something even better showcased in the title track. |
| 1 | Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Easy top 5 all time Maiden track for me and the best of the classic era epics. The layers of harmony just add so much to this one and the lyrics are great to build up to the bridge and beyond section. The crazy middle section is a damned nightmare to keep track of whilst performing but it is just so so so cool, especially live as the flames on stage start coming alive. What sets this one apart though is the whole ending with the alternating solos and interludes. Hands down fav ending to an Iron Maiden song and I always am lost in the madness by time those choral key stabs come in before the final perfect harmonies. What an absolutely killer track just 100% pure essence of classic Iron Maiden. |
