Problem is, I was living in Japan at the time and Cali wasn't even my home of record, so I shouldn't even have been paying that tax (something my tax statement for that year also points out). Should be fun explaining my way out of that one when I get back, lol

I don't know what they can and ultimately will do and I don't really wanna find out... the interest starts racking up on what you owe regardless for last tax year I had a partially unpaid balance for some months and eventually they sent a notice threatening to levy the funds which sounds like potentially seizing control of bank accounts... I mean I don't know what ultimately would have happened had it not been eventually paid off
unclereich 04.16.26	they garnish your wages although the process is slow. usually after a more notices than you'd think. my uncle owes 80k rn. they are pretty forgiving and will allow you to make payments you can afford. a lot of people get suckered into taking out loans to pay the irs back which is a mistake because the irs' interest rate and payment plans are always on friendlier terms than loan sharks'
