Brabiz: Just Released My Album! (Black Usurper)

Brabiz 04.12.26	I’ve done it, I’ve finally released my very own schizo, obscure, esoteric black metal album. All about conspiracy theories and apocalyptic imagery, with a layer of gothic sludge poured on top for good measure.

Gameofmetal 04.13.26	Drums still sound kinda weird and mechanical but there's some really wonderful stuff especially on these tracks where you get weird and slow and atmospheric. Think you could do some great stuff pursuing an Oranssi Pazuzu type sound.
Brabiz 04.13.26	Appreciate you guys checking it, and I’m glad to hear it’s an improvement. I’m hoping to evolve and tighten up this sound even more on whatever I do next. Unsure of what to do about the drums though, maybe some more EQ work and messing with the velocity of hits? Idk. My band with a full lineup is working on our debut, and that’s been thousands of dollars and nearly a decade of refinement. So perhaps after that’s done, I can ask our drummer to do some work with Black Usurper. Or look into a session musician.
Beardog 04.13.26	If you want I can also program some drums, or show specifically how to make some beats sound more realistic. Because I think it is more of a writing issue than it necessarily is a programming issue. Will check the record soon!
Gameofmetal 04.13.26	Programming drums well really is an art for the non drummer songwriter, I'm always learning new stuff. For me it was some of the cymbals, and some of it is just how the samples sound I think.
Beardog 04.13.26	I think with this style of metal and especially the production you can get away with almost anything. For sure playing with the accents helps, but if you write like someone would actually play then that helps more I think.
Brabiz 04.13.26	I would definitely appreciate the help, man. I typically just do whatever I think sounds interesting, and drums are probably the last thing I’m familiar with when it comes to writing music. My thought process is usually “oh that sounds weird, I’ll do that” But if at the end of the day, it’s having a negative impact, it’s definitely something I should focus more on learning or getting help with.
Brabiz 04.13.26	While I haven’t written anything yet, I am planning on exploring some more simplistic, mid-era Darkthrone, punk influenced / doom-y stuff, while fleshing out the strange elements of this album. Maybe going more raw and demo sounding. So could be a good way to start developing my drum knowledge
Beardog 04.13.26	Sure, let me know what kinda approach fits best for you! I'd be able to write some drum parts similar to what you performed on some songs that I think would be more realistic but capture the same energy. Or just have a call or something.

AlkemestRedux 04.15.26	dabs Mortuary Drape slays so hard! Pretty much all their albums are great, with a couple mid-career drops that were just ok. I've emailed them asking about trying to get copies of their records in the US but the tariffs are making that unlikely. Copies of their first two albums and Spiritual Independence would be awesome.
Brabiz 04.16.26	@beardog yeah, of course thanks! I’m probably going to take a few weeks off to work on other things because I have a lot going on with music at the moment. But I do have some abstract ideas going, especially for direction and art design. I’ll let you know when I have something
Brabiz 04.16.26	So far I’ve checked the first two albums, and of the two, I greatly prefer the first. Sounds like it was recorded in a tomb.
Brabiz 04.18.26	I have around 20 minutes worth of post-punk demos which are currently just drums, bass, keys, and vocals. May approach them again with a black metal lens. Could be an interesting venture to kick off the next release.
brickhed 04.20.26	it's got a good amount of variety, and i like the generally airy and kosmik nature of it. the weird dissonant turns on the second half are quite jarring, but I can tell what you're going for. the ambient breaks (especially the last track) are great. also this album is an example of how to make drum machines in metal sound great. you can barely tell its samples since it fits with the production so well.
Brabiz 04.20.26	Fuck yes! I’m so glad you mentioned the closing track, for me that was the biggest risk, as it originally ended at Dionysian Winter, and it was a tight 32 minutes. Greatly appreciate your thoughts on it!! Thanks for listening.
